I found the main character Colin incredibly annoying. I don’t know how many times I “eye rolled” from him being so blah. It’s kind of the typical YA novel where the main character experiences heartbreak and in the end they begin to love themself.

One thing I really enjoyed was the dialogue, which is always one of Green’s talents as a writer. I loved the use of different languages scattered about. Also, the conflict of dying American factories was a nice touch in there.

John Green's books are usually hit or miss for me and unfortunately, this one was a miss.

Though I didn't hate the story, there didn't seem to be a point or purpose to the tale that was being told. If I were to view this as a one-off novella, I might be able to give it more credit. But since this was meant to be a stand alone novel, I felt like there could have been so much more done with it. As it was, there wasn't any real character development, it was too short to have any kind of real substance, and some of the phrasing being using could likely be considered offensive to many people, particularly those in the state of Tennessee.

Definitely not his best work. If you want a super quick, mindless read, this is for you. But don't expect anything more from it.

Generally I love his books and I enjoy reading all the craziness that his characters get up to but this was one book I'm not particularly in-like with. It just didn't quite hit me as an interesting read, and I found Colin a bit of a prick to be honest.

Don't get me wrong, it was definitely well written and I'm glad it was as short as it was, but the story itself was of no particular interest.

what an incredibly satisfying ending. as cliche as it may be, i love that colin’s theorem, while true for the past, is superseded by love when it comes to the future. the pristinely-organized pattern of colin’s life’s expression is transformed into a confusing and unprecedented life story when, after nineteen katherines, he meets his first lindsey.

This was my first book from John Green. A nice intro to his writing and storytelling. I easily related to Colin and Lindsey as I shared certain traits when I was that age.

I found that the coming of age and self discovery of the story endearing and believable. I can't wait to read my next selection from this author.

3.5 stars. What started as a heartbroken roadtrip turned into a cute countryside setting, memorable characters, and a wholesome story. Took me a while to get into it, but ultimately devoured the story in a day.

I think after reading this book and Looking for Alaska that John Green might be my new favorite author. I didn't rate this novel as high as Looking for Alaska, only because the plot was kind of predictable in that, SPOILER ALERT: of course Colin gets the girl. But I really enjoyed reading this book because of the humor. I laughed out loud reading this book more than any other book I've read. The interactions between Colin and Hassan and Lindsey are fantastic. The hilarity of the footnotes were an added extra bonus.

I just couldn't finish this book. Normally, I can devour a book within a couple of days, if even that, and I started reading this a MONTH ago. I gave it 2 stars because I've read worse books and it wasn't completely annoying, it just wasn't interesting to me. I just couldn't buy into the whole Katherine thing, and some of the language was just so immature. Fugging? Really? I haven't said that since I was 12.

I also decided to read a summary of the rest of this book which confirms that I've made the right decision in abandoning this book, instead of wasting my time.

I'm a big fan of John Green, but this isn't my favorite of his. Colin is selfish, but that's part of his character design, he's supposed to be selfish. But his conflicts with people don't feel genuine. He's mad at Hassan shortly and they get over it very quickly. TOC and Colin get into a disagreement and then we never see TOC again. It also felt very rushed at the end, after thinking so much about Katherine(s) he moves on very quickly.
