Another stellar performance from Durfee! Seriously this series is a top 10 fantasy series. At the very least top 10 ongoing series. A must read without a doubt. This book adds a couple more POV characters and every single character is so entertaining to read, to the point where I don’t really have a favorite character because I love them all for separate reasons. We finally find out who’s been leaving cryptic messages for Tala but there’s still so many more answers to be had that I’m dying for the next book. Especially since it seems like dragons will be incorporated. Yes please! This book also has one of the most epic battle scenes that could rival John Gwynne.

What an improvement to the previous book. I like that a lot.

Lots of POVs, fantastic action scenes, lots of plots, lots of interweaving of characters, suspense, intrigue and a fantastic ending. The descriptions are so well done that I can actually visualize the scenes. Has me continuously guessing as to who are the true Warrior Angel's. Sometimes I think I got it figured out, other times I'm no longer so sure - lots of fun.
Gave it 4 stars because I found it long at times and started reading a second book. There were also a lot of modern day references during the first half which I found distracting. Didn't notice it so much during the second half, or I just got used to them.

After book 1 set such a high bar, this one had some serious shoes to fill, and it was somehow even better than the first one. The prophecies and chosen one tropes get so twisted and you keep questioning who it "chosen" and who is a fake. Conflicting religions constantly make you question whats right and whats wrong. I am still shocked at some of these jaw-dropping events. I am stunned and blown away by this series, more people need to read it.

While better balanced and more entertaining than the first book The Blackest Heart still suffers from excessive amounts of whining and self-pity, in fact, if you cut out most of those scenes this book would’ve been at least 300 pages shorter. We follow most of the surviving POVs from the first book and had some others added on, but again, none of them were particularly entertaining. It took a while but finally, at around chapter 40, I started getting interested in the actual story. The book ended on a high note and almost had me starting the third book right away.
