"Unless you actively choose not to see her, she's impossible to ignore."

A book I saw in the bookstore and bought based on its title and premise. AND I loved it! I had something to highlight or underline or tab on every page. It sent me on so many research rabbit holes and reminded me how much I love art history.

Yes, it does get a little bit repetitive with each case study, but I personally think that it emphasises the sheer amount of inequality women suffered from and still do suffer from.

the women that the book talks about are sometimes fascinating. but the writing style wasn't super engaging for me, and i found i wanted the writer to interrogate the colonialism embedded within our understandings of "fine art" more than she did.

Finally an art historian who can REALLY write! This makes you think about Western art so differently, & there’s so much info packed into its 336 pages.Â
