Cute! I like this one about as much as the first one. Chase is a slightly more irritating hero than Ash was, but Daisy and Rosamund make up for it.

At times, I find Tessa Dare's style to be a bit too precious. The style didn't bother me in the Castles Ever After Series, but I couldn't stand it in the Spindle Cove series. It works for me here, but I'm worried this may be a problem in the next book, which is Lady Penelope's story. She's just too ... cutesy.

Despite that, I'm glad we get to see characters and couples, even beyond their own book. These people are all close friends, so it makes sense that they'd play a vital role in each other's lives rather than being shuffled to the background.

These last 3 months of the year are my busiest and I don't have the attention span to give to deep, thought provoking books so I typically turn to cozy mysteries, romances and the like in audiobook to give me a break from my work stresses. But just because these books are lighter in nature doesn't mean I want to read a bad (at least to me) book. Tessa Dare is a MUST read for me during these times. Her writing is top notch. She writes with humor and feeling. While the plot is predictable, the story and characters provided me with pure enjoyment.

a tiny child killing off her doll with some new disease every night and then holding a doll funeral where her reluctant father figure is forced to give a eulogy? simply delightful

Not as good as book 1, the characters were less compelling. But it had moments of charm and silliness and it was overall enjoyable!

It was cute. It was a fun time. I really did enjoy it but it wasn’t anything special.

Weakest pair of the three imo and the ending was a little lacklustre BUT I love the girls, particularly Daisy :)

I received a free copy of this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Historical romances have always been my go-to read when I need a comfort blanket, and today "The Governess Game" did not let me down. It was like sitting down with a box of my favourite chocolates and just indulging. I was soon lost to the world, completely living in Alexandra and Chase's world. I laughed, I cried, I felt, I experienced their emotions. I am a big fan of Tessa Dare, she has an incredible ability to craft stories that are relatable, but tongue in cheek. Her characters have depth and little idiosyncrasies that make them stand out, but she also knows when to change the tone and introduce some pathos.

The story revolves around Alexandra and Chase who first meet when he bumps into her in a bookshop. Some months later they meet again when he mistakes her for a Governess applying to teach his wards. The developing relationship between them, and the two small girls Alexandra is employed to teach forms the basis of a light-hearted, engaging read.
