It felt like reading a Caraval fanfiction. I enjoyed it. It was entertaining.

I can't say I loved the sibling dynamic. It felt forced and obligatory. I do think Zosa had potential to be an important character, was she not
a bird
for 90% of the book 😭 I could not care less about Zosa. Sorry not sorry.

They could have given the birds more character. I know that sounds stupid but it makes sense when you read it. I think the middle could have been paced faster and the end could have been paced slower/gone more in depth.

Predicted most of the plot twists very early on but who is surprised.

Zero expectations coming into this book as I was sold on the cover.

At first the mysteriousness of it all really got me invested (even though Jani was super self centred and that’s sucks because she’s the MC). The story then gets a little convoluted and fell flat as it tries to weave a tale a little like The Night Circus but not.

Jani beats all odds and does everything she’s told not to… Bel keeps saving her and fixing things and she has zero growth. And then that slapped on romance…. Why?

A few of the other characters would have been interesting to get to know but we don’t get any of that unfortunately.

I did enjoy the overall story in the end though when Celeste comes in (and basically tells the story that should have been told) but I think the whole story could have been laid out better with the same premise and just all in all written better.

I saw Hotel Magnifique advertised as a mix between Caraval and The Night Circus since I LOVED Caraval I obviously had to jump at the opportunity to read this one! This is exactly what I expected, Hotel Magnifique brings us a beautiful and magical young adult fantasy with immersive world-building and some really interesting and compelling characters. There's definitely the same eerie and mysterious feel you get from Caraval and it's packed full of an adventures story.

I loved the plot of the book and the story was so magical and will keep you guessing and wanting to learn more about the secrets and the hidden aspects of the hotel. I loved that there was a little romance present but it wasn't the main focus and never really took center stage, Jani and Bel also have a very unique and interesting chemistry that keeps you hooked on their relationship as well.

The ending of the book was SO good - it wrapped everything up and gave you the perfect feeling of closure that you typically want. My ONE complaint is that the prologue felt like a different story or at least a different genre, but it does set the stage for the story really well!

A bit underwhelming. It took so long to get to the ending, only for it to be so rushed. Also I enjoyed the darker parts of the story/world the most, kinda wished the book had leaned into those more.
But the romance and the banter??? The best I've read in a while, I was grinning like a fool. I just wanted more or that.

I didn't think that Hotel Magnifique was perfect, but I still loved it quite a bit! :)

My rating/score: 4 out of 5 stars on Goodreads' rating system / 8 out of 10 on my own personal scoring system.
