Bavilo mě to.

When I love a book, it's easy to gush my praise in a review. When I loathe a book it's easy to spout venom in a review. It's much more difficult to arrange my thoughts when I only liked a book or I have conflicted feelings. With that said, I did like this book. I like the way Richelle Meade writes. I admire her for avoiding a formula, each of her series is so different from the last and Gameboard of the Gods is a very intriguing and original concept. I enjoyed the world building, which some have criticized, but this is not simply a dystopian future, this is a dystopian future that has supernatural interference, weird things can happen! I love that she wrote this as an adult novel; it was mature and sophisticated. I think what held me back from falling in love with this book was the characters, not the story or environment. Richelle Meade writes kick-ass strong girl-power characters that are smart, brave and not afraid of their sexuality, think Rose and Eugenie. She also writes hot male leads that are strong but endearing, think Dmitri, Adrian and Dorian. So, Mae and Justin are the problem, I can't love them. Mae is strong and brave but too frigid, Justin is just a jerk and their relationship is moving painfully slow. The good news is, this is an interesting story, these characters are going to grow and their relationship will develop, you know it's coming, and lets hope it's great!

Check out my video review of Gameboard Of The Gods (http://youtu.be/1r14YkxDHRA)! This was a fun and fast paced book. It was a lot to process, but I really enjoyed it! I totally recommend for those who want to check out an adult series from Richelle Mead!

Absolutely fantastic. I have to say I prefer this to Mead's YA books, though I do love those too. This, I felt, was so developed and nuanced that it seemed quite realistic in many ways. There were times when I was legitimately confused with what was going on, because the world was so developed and the majority of the characters were accustomed to its ways where I was not or the plot wasn't making sense, but such confusion was generally in places where Justin March was having issues with figuring out his case, anyway. Overall, I loved it. Can't wait for the next one!

Mead is an ista-buy author for me, I love her previous series' and I was excited for her to produce some new material.

She is a fantastic world builder, fight scene writer, and always seems to do romance in just the right amount for me.

This book is different though. She takes her voice to a whole other level. I actually had to google a meaning to a word on more than one occasion. (mainly because i cant stand not knowing a word) She wrote a a complex, mentally challenging book. One with deeply threaded characters, and beautiful world ( and not so beautiful at times) Definitely what I would call her first "real" adult series.

GOTG is a mix of dystopian, romance, mythology, theology, government conspiracy and mystery. Which of all those appeal to me in a great way. It was also a breath of fresh air to read an adult dystopian, not some teenagers finding love in the rubble.

Though during the middle it got a tad slow... She spends so much time getting you to understand her mains and the world that it ends up bringing the pace of the novel to a dull walk. As always though Mead throws in some stellar fighting, and gets you right back on board.

Overall a fantastic read, and am looking forward to the next one. Especially because now that we have the characters down it will have a faster pace.

There were a few moments when the book made me cringe (almond eyes, Praetorian sexuality), but generally this is basically what this kind of fiction should aspire to - decent, gripping plot, fun characters, coherent mythology. If not for Tessa's utterly superfluous presence, I'd award four stars.

I have enjoyed all of Mead's other books, but this one was not great. The story and characters took a remote second place to world-building and (often incomprehensible) information. I don't consider myself a dimwitted reader, but I am still unsure of what many of the terms in this book meant. (I.e. What exactly is the numerical score based on?!) Mae was too perfect, Justin was a douchebag most of the time. I only finished the book because I kept hoping it would get better and because I have an aversion to leaving books unfinished. I hope the sequel finds some of that Mead magic that this one missed.

Great star to a series. The world building took a long time so that made the story slow in some parts. But when it go movie it fas fun and action packed. Cannot wait to see more of Mae and Justin and the gods that are coming out in the world.
