similarly to glass sword, this book seemed to drag on as well. it wasn’t very memorable, the first half at least, but again, towards the end the pace definitely picked up. i loved the multiple povs, especially iris’ and her character in-self was very enjoyable for me! i also felt like the capture of maven was very anticlimactic since there was a lot of build up towards it. nonetheless, this instalment definitely could have been better but they’re were some enjoyable parts.

The continuing saga of Mare Barrow, this book was not the "stunning conclusion" that the publisher said it would be. The ending felt flat and the story felt unresolved. I hate posting spoilers but I will say that I was underwhelmed by the story's conclusion. Sadly like most series, the first book seems to always be the best and the quality seems to go down with each subsequent book (with the exception of Harry Potter of course). I felt like there were opportunities to make this book shine but it just never realized its full potential.

The book was just "fine". It was way too long. I ended up skimming the last ~100 pages, because I just wanted to be done.
It is a pet peeve of mine when authors go from writing in first person in a series to multiple characters by chapter in later books. It's confusing and hard to keep characters straight.
The ending was anti-climactic and unresolved.
I LOVED the first book and have read it countless times. The rest of the series fell flat for me.

I didn't dislike this read, and I'm happy to finish the series. However, to me almost every character had the same personality, which made perspective-switching bland and sometimes confusing. The book's really long for YA, and I got downright bored at parts, continuing to read only because I knew this is the last main book of the series. I have no desire to read the novellas.

Ugh, I tried really hard to love this but man...it kept putting me to sleep! I feel like we came so far and then just blah.

I haven't read the previous books in the series in years, but I was a little surprised at how much this book repeated things that were done already in the series. It was enjoyable in the sense that the story continued and largely had a happy ending but knowing this is how it went, I won't reread the series.

Damn, this book took me forever to finish. And if I’m being completely honest, the ending wasn’t worth it. I’m about to rant about the entirety of the series, so please excuse that.
1) How did Kilorn not die? He had like 3 near-death experiences throughout the entire series, and yet he ever died. He wasn’t a love interest, didn’t have any powers, nor did he seem like anything. He was like a cardboard box, which most of the childhood best friends tend to be in YA books. He was literally just a fisherman, which after a conversation with my sister, we determined to be buff, but he was only muscle. He legit says at one point, “I’m the muscle.”
2) I wanted Maven to live. Yes, I know that he was messed up inside, had questionable morals, and was probably a psychopath, but he was hot. He was less of a plain wafer than Cal, and he kinda had a better backstory. However, I do know that what he did to Mare was wrong and shouldn’t be excused no matter what, but still. I know that Mare probably didn’t mean to kill him, because if I remember correctly she said that she wanted to help fix him? But the way he died was…Disappointing.
3) I was sad to see that she didn’t pick anyone in the end. But, I always to appreciate a good “I don’t need a man to be happy” lady. She wasn’t Team Maven or Team Cal, she was Team Mare.
Anyways, I’m going to pretend that this book doesn’t exist like many readers because of the ending, and also because I didn’t like it. Overall, 3/5 stars.
