So, I thought I had read this in high school, but I know I didn't because I would have remembered this. Really glad I read it, and we all read out some of our favorite parts (and then saw a hideous TV musical version from the 1950's).

What a great way you spend a quiet afternoon! I’ve read several books recently that referred to this play. It’s been so many years since I read this play that I’d forgotten all about it. I look forward to seeing it or even acting in it some day.

Read this after reading Tom Lake, since the story centered around the play and Ann urged readers to see/read it in her afterword. Now looking forward to seeing the stage production!

I love deceptively simple plots that represent a wider rumination on existence and why were here. This is just that. I don't know that it deserves quite the praise it gets, I feel as though I've read better, but authors I admire and consider sacrosanct have lauded Wilder's famous work as major inspiration and required reading, so I will defer to their professional wisdom and trust that there is a beauty my eyes haven't evolved the cones to see quite yet.

"Most everybody climbs into the grave married."
The more complicated this country gets, the darker this play seems to me.
