This was basically fine. I enjoyed the way the protagonist was surrounded by people scheming to destroy his life but sort of couldn’t be bothered to do anything about it until the very end. He reminded me a little of the main guy in The Plot (Jean Hanff Korelitz) because he was too stupid to see what was happening in 95% of the book. As is typical with Elmore Leonard, characters used racial slurs with abandon. Wouldn’t really recommend.

This is not Elmore's best novel but his genius still shines through. The way he puts everything in place for that final, cinematic scene. The guy was fucking ace. He would still write the ass off pretty much every crime writer today.

Fun but fairly trivial, tries to bring in some politics, but this adds little value and ultimately doesn't say anything.

Set against a backdrop beginning when the US sent Marines to overthrow the first democratically elected president of the Dominican Republic in the 60’s, Cat Chaser begins with a small cast of characters at a hotel on the beach in Florida. Leonard is a master of dialogue, colorful criminals, and tension. I enjoyed coming along for the ride.

Extremely twisty thriller, and one of the best arguments one can make for going into Leonard novels blind. Twenty-five pages in, and I had trouble explaining the concept to my wife, as it was all just a bunch of characters being introduced with different motivations.

According to an INTERNET COMMENT I've read, apparently Leonard liked to just come up with fully realized characters and then let them bump into each other until a resolution was come to. "Cat Chaser" is a beautiful example of how to do this well.

This is a re-read.
I've been re-reading all the Elmore Leonard books and so far
this one has the most thrilling ending to it. Plot and
dialogue are typical Leonard, fascinating reading, great
characters.
Recommended!

Middling, unfocused effort by Leonard but it had pockets of quality writing and a fantastic ending (maybe his best).
