I listened to this as an audiobook and think that format made me enjoy the story more than had I read it traditionally.

It feels like it was written by 2 different authors when it shift perspectives between the 2 main characters. It is a nice story just feels like the first half is somewhat fluffy when the last half really gets to the grit of the story. It’s a slow read but the last 1/4 of the book was really good!

A beautiful story about desperation to find oneself, hope, love, and heartbreak. The Direction of the Wind follows mother, Nita, and daughter, Sophie, across two separate timelines as Sophie retraces Nita’s steps from India to Nita’s new life in Paris.

The story was compelling and Nita and Sophie are both complex characters that are easy to root for.

3.5 stars. It was interesting, though heartbreaking, reading about Nita's time in Paris. I appreciated Sophie's determination in learning the truth about her mother's past.

I didn't really think much of anything about this. It was kind of boring. The characters were a bit cliche and the story was fairly predictable.

The Direction of the Wind by Mansi Shah

Wow, that packed an emotional sucker punch to the heart.

This book was a tale of two lost women; mother and daughter searching for themselves and their purpose in life.

You have Nita, a woman who is used to following the rules, and who feel stifled by her arranged marriage and chosen life in India. She wants to pursue art, and so she leaves her husband and daughter at home and move to Paris. But Paris is not good for her, it ends up being her down fall.

Enter Sophie, Nita’s daughter – who has been told Nita died at a young age. Sophie found out that was a lie. Sophie ran to Europe to try and find her mother, and in sort of a déjà vu of her mother, find herself.

Both women are extremely tortured by things and go through very hard times. While there was no happy ending with this book, I loved the emotions the author portrayed. She did a really good job of showing grief and what it feels like when you’re lost and don’t know who you are. The author also did an amazing job tackling addiction.

The only reason I spoke, didn’t get five stars in my opinion was because the ending dragged a little bit

I found the characters to be engaging and the story pretty interesting. Some parts I wish were longer or more detailed but overall I really enjoyed my time with this book.
