i’m speechless. i can’t believe i let this sit on my bookshelf for months!!! such a beautiful selection of poems, literally MAGICAL

“dejected, every moment I ask the mirror
what is left of me, what do you see?
but--no, no--in the mirror I see that I'm not even a shadow of what I was”

“before this, how far away our world was from these blue balconies of the sky
now your voice reaches my ear again
the sound of angels' snowy wings
look at how far I've come
to the Milky Way, to the infinite, to the eternal Now that we have reached the zeniths wash me with the wine of the waves wrap me in the silk of your kisses want me in the slow-paced nights
don't ever let me go
don't separate me from these stars”

“all day my gaze
was fixed on the eyes of my life on those two anxious fearful eyes that fled from my fixed stare and like liars sought refuge in the safe sanctuary of their lids”

“and this world is filled with the sound of the footsteps of people who as they kiss you
mentally braid the rope for your hanging”

"had vou been in my heart before now
I would have never mistaken you for someone else"

“Without you, far from the beating of your heart my heart will rot there under the soil
Much later rain and wind will gently wash away my name from the face of my headstone
By the side of the road my grave will remain nameless, free of the stories about me”

Beautiful attempt at translation of the persian poetry.

Can't really say wether I'm not a poetry fan or if I honestly did not enjoy the English translation of a work I could've put more effort into understanding and enjoying in the original langauge.

The collection was tragic, melancholic and in some parts, extremely liberal, there are many expressions of loss and grievance for one's old self and somewhat poetic longing for a partner that may change forms and at times could be none other than oneself.

"You are embedded in the smile of my tomorrows"

“Isn’t the earth, trembling under your feet
lonelier than you are?”

Reading poetry in translation is always tricky. For, no matter how good the translator is, some of its original charm is always lost in translation.

Regardless, this is a great collection. Love, desire, longing, religious allusions... There's a little bit of everything in these 100-odd pages.

Some poems truly moved me, others - I didn't care for. But if you love poetry, this is in no way a waste of your time!

I was heavily drawn in by the name of the poetry collection which is long but such a gorgeous title. There were poems I did enjoy maybe 3/4. However, I personally just didn't connect with this as much as I wanted to. I kind of enjoyed the translators introduction more than i enjoyed the majority if the poetry.
