I had the same issues with this book as I did with the first; the pace is slowed by the weight of the superfluous details. Book #2 is darker and more violent, but the idea of bringing physical objects (or people) out of dreams is really interesting and once the story got rolling, I had to see where it was going. I'm fully invested in these Raven Boys (and Blue) and I will read the next book to see what happens.

Read via NetGalley.

I can only add to the universal love for this. It's really satisfying to read a follow-up novel that hits the ground running and doesn't spend endless paragraphs re-hashing events from its precursor; that actually has terrific character development and fun banter and acute observations and expands upon the plot in a believable and exciting way. You can tell that the author has a lot of love for these characters of hers; even the ones that should be hateful aren't, just aren't. Everyone has their place and role. Look, I even liked Kavinsky, okay? (see you on the streets)
SpoilerThe homoerotic element totally took me by surprise and I liked it a lot; I liked it because I didn't see it coming and because it made sense and was subtle but sexy. And strangely, the scene that has really stayed with me was Gansey and Adam's visit to the home of Gansey's parents; I thought that was really well done. It could have very easily been boring but I felt that it showed those two - plus the peripheral characters - in a very interesting light. And another small detail that really tickled me was Noah's predilection for re-enacting his own death: endearing and creepy.
Excited (but scared) for book three.

A note on the ebook formatting: it was kinda funky, with run-on paragraphs (particularly dialogue) and incorrect page breaks and breaks at the start of each chapter, as if to allow for a drop cap.

This book is beautiful and does beautiful work on the characters but of the four raven cycle books this is the least progressive plot wise. This is both a good and a bad thing. If you didn't connect with the characters in the first book this will likely feel like a filler episode. If you did connect well with the characters The Dream Thieves is heartbreaking, tear-jerking and beautiful

Had such a great time rereading this one! Made so many annotations (I can't believe how little I annotated it the first time!) and noticed so much clever foreshadowing and good character work. Maggie does it again!

I just love these characters and these books so much, they bring me so much comfort. I loved this book even more than the first one which i didn't know was possible.
