This series is like potato chips-- addictive and way more fun than it seems like it should be-- even with Norse mythology, fantasy creatures, and more in small-town America. Daisy, the conflicted, half-demon heroine, is fun, but the other characters really make the series. (It's also refreshing to read a book that is not solely reliant on the heroine's ability to fix things with newly developed magic abilities). Also, the lamia makes me incredibly happy. I need more powerful, half-snake women in my life. And also, ghouls.

I love Jacqueline Carey. I love her with the affection of someone who you see from a distance, who's always doing cool shit, saying wonderful things, and presenting themselves in a manner that always stops you and makes you say to yourself, "dang, Buddy. 10 out of 10."

and I'm also really happy she is investing herself and all of us with her in the stories and characters from Pemkowet. They are fallible, diverse, comedic, dangerous. The pace moves along well, the scenery is described well, though I wouldn't mind a little more (those of us from California miss a good description of the 4 seasons, since we have only 2 here).

My only two small comments are the sort of suspended delay of interaction romantically for Daisy, for me it drags slightly. Perhaps this is a device to be explored in later books, but it feels like the epic writing of the Kushiel series trained her to lengthen the story, inwhich here, we don't need so much suspense. Also, Daisy's constant inner monologue that describes her own life and the scene makes me a little impatient.
But these are small things.

Essentially, I'm in love, and will stay throughout wherever Pemkowet, and Daisy, go.

Compared to the first book, this one well..dragged. Things were happening constantly but it wasn't very exciting. And a lot of the action scenes had hardly any real action. The main character is also becoming a let down. She is a Hell-spawn and Hel's liaison, but she has no power or authority except threats and contacts. She never does much of anything. Even her few kills in the series happened while other people were holding them down, or they gave up. I wanted her to grow as a character, but she is more indecisive and weak in this book then she was in the last. She needs to learn how to make a decision and then how to back it. Why did Hel choose her? I just got bored.

Seasonal timing was perfect for this read. Yes, I sometimes found it a bit cheesy, but it was a tasty morsel of cheese. Light and fun, this is definitely an easy series. I'm still hoping for more eldritch sexy time. Maybe in the next book? Gah!

I liked the first one better than this one. I found it a bit knock-offy, and the heroine's voice reminiscent of Anita Blake, which isn't always the best thing.

Daisy is a fun protagonist. She finds herself in the weirdest situations and I have to say the giant hormone induced orgy in the club climbed to the top of the weird list. The rest of the characters in the series continue to help Daisy and keep the story on track. Daisy's Mom is a breath of fresh air and Lurine always manages to stand out in a super fun way.

Let's talk relationship/romances. I was a bit shocked with the relationship between Sinclair and Daisy. He just doesn't seem her type. His family is a bit psycho too. I have to say I was super happy at the events that happened between Daisy and Cody. I am not sure what will happen from here on out but they have great chemistry and I hope that Daisy doesn't get hurt in the long run. I am still not sure what I think of Stefan. The whole he is a ghoul thing kinda freaks me out but he is always there when Daisy needs him and that counts for something.

Although there are many sub plots going on I had no problem keeping up with what was happening. I thought AUTUMN BONES is paced better than book 1 so if pacing was an issue for you, give book 2 a try. Daisy and her friends bring plenty of action and drama to the table making this series fun to follow. If you are looking for a light, fun and quick paced Urban Fantasy, this series might be for you!

I just love finding a new to me urban fantasy series! This is one that I just happened to find at the library and I will admit that it was the cover that caught my attention when I was checking out some books for my husband. It's the time of the year where falling leaves really tend to get my attention since we don't have a lot of color change here in Washington.

I really liked the main character Daisy who has her doubts just like any woman but also has the worry about not claiming her birthright from her father. Talk about added stress since if she claims it all kinds of really bad things will happen. And her job as Hel's enforcer didn't come with any training so it really is learn as she goes.

The secondary characters in this book really add to the story. Jen, her best friend and her Zander, is human and really helps to keep Daisy grounded. Her mother is also a real grounding influence. And then there are the men in Daisy's life which as all just yummy in their varied ways. I will admit to being part of Team Stephen.

I really enjoyed AUTUMN BONES and have already put the second book in the series on hold at my local library. I do recommend this book to any of my readers who enjoy urban fantasy that isn't too explicit sexually.

Fun and simple. I enjoyed it. There's no deep thinking involved; it's just funny and smart urban fantasy.
