I had read two other books in this series that I really enjoyed and yet I never picked up the first one. I started with Boss Daddy because I seen a really good review of it and it seemed like something that I wanted to read and could do so as a stand alone. And I really enjoyed it so much that I went straight into Ranch Daddy because I really liked the character of Colton. Again, really enjoyed that instalment.

But for some reason I never really got that feeling of wanting to read more about Brody and Georgia. Then I thought it is lockdown and I need to read me so some feel good, country/ranch/cowboy romance and decided to give His Ranch, His Rules a try and oh my god I am so glad that I did. I have completely fallen in love with these two characters and the with the extended cast.

This book was everything I needed and more. I read this on my kindle but will be buying a physical copy for me shelves for when I need a little pick me up.

You can read the books in this series as stand-alones, but you will be missing out on a wonderful read if you pass up this first book in the series.

5 stars for His Ranch, His Rules.

This was my first book by this author. I did not expect to, yet I LOVED this book. Georgia was so relatable. I’ve been there with my heart broken, and her descent into alcohol overindulgence is so typical of what a lot of people experience. I loved how even though she was hurting, she didn’t have a victim mentality. She womaned up and owned her shortcomings.

Brody, oh my! He was everything I didn’t know I wanted to read about. He was sweet, but stern, understanding and nurturing, yet quick to judge. He was very hard on Georgia and he was unfair to her, but he made up for it.

This book was a fun escape. I cringed and chuckled while I read it. There were a few typos, but the story flowed well. The dialogue and banter were great. I’ll look for more from this author.

His Ranch, His Rules is an easy to read, low angst, somewhat steamy read. Georgia is a hot mess at the start of the book, and I liked how brave the author was in writing the heroine this way. We saw growth in her character and, with one exception (which I will return to later) I liked how she grew in strength and resilience.

Whilst the hero spanks the heroine for the first time really soon after they first met, it was entirely consensual. The book really suffered from a very "tell not show" narrated style of writing, this impacted on my connection with Brody, since the book is written entirely from Georgia's point of view. However this is perfect if you're looking for a light, sexy beach read with a side of spanking.

I loved Georgia's uncompromising attitude when Brody messed up and let her down, especially regarding his lack of trust. Now here is where me exception from earlier comes in. Brody not trusting Georgia was what really upset and hurt her, yet this was never addressed. I felt that Brody didn't trulyearn his forgiveness. However I definitely enjoyed this book - hence the three stars.

Short and sweet book. My biggest issues have to do with the lack of character development and how some of the story was communicated via diary entries. While the idea of the journal entires was quite interesting, the incredibly detailed smut communicated in that way felt a bit odd.

I knew this book was going to be goofy going into it, but I needed a break between paranormal romance novels so I picked it up on a lark.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s completely readable and if you find alcoholism and self destruction and a heroine who acts like a bratty teenager than this will certainly be up your alley. If you like a book that is written entirely from one POV and that switches to some weird diary format in the second half, this book will keep you entertained. If you like a rushed romance between a man of indeterminate age who doesn’t drink or swear but who likes anal sex and spanking and a youngish woman with no real goals or purpose in life than this will keep you riveted to your seat.

Me? Not so much. Just because it’s a kinky/naughty romance novel doesn’t mean it doesn’t deserve to be written well.

The relationship between the h/H is just weird and clunky and awkward...it’s not sexy at all. Even the spanking parts were just....weird. And I’ve read some off the wall books, okay?

I finished it, because like I said before it’s readable...but barely. And all the cringing I did has given me an eye twitch.

Major pet peeves:

1. Do not describe characters by using “looks just like Luke Bryan” because a. Not everyone knows who that is and b. Now I’m thinking of Luke Bryan and not this character you want me to envision. It’s lazy writing.

2. The diary thing? Again....lazy. Half the book happened and I had to read about it second hand from a first person POV book....it was weird and what is she five years old? The diary thing was childish and a way for the author to push a story along without having to actually write it. Is Microsoft Word charging by the letter now? Was there a word shortage the year this was written? Why couldn’t the book be longer?

3. The cop out explanation at the end? (No spoilers)....that was the lamest thing I’ve ever heard.

I get it, kinky books are money makers. But, at least try to write something worthwhile. This story fell completely flat.
