“The peace wasn’t in this meadow. It wasn’t the grass or the flowers or the trees. The peace was at Everly’s side.”

I always love a marriage of convenience story, especially when the male character is a grump like Reese Huxley. Everly Christian has lived in Calamity, Montana ever since she came to visit her best friend (Lucy from The Bribe) and had a life-threatening incident. She’s still shook up and kept to herself, so when she wanders out on the town one night, she is pleasantly surprised to meet Reese.

One night turns into some more, but they both agreed to keep things strictly platonic. Neither of them, especially Reese, wants a relationship his last left him a nasty divorce and a lost custody battle. Reese has continued to fight for his rights to his teenaged daughter though, and his newest suggestion from his lawyer is to have a positive female influence in the house- enter Everly. She offers to marry Hux and although they were hoping nothing would change, things obviously do.

The new couple has to face the custody battle for Hux’s daughter, the town gossip, the ex-wife, and living together. Hux and Everly try very hard to keep things strictly physical, but they both develop feelings and keep them hidden. When things get brought to light in Hux’s personal life, Everly has to make a decision for the both of them on how to move forward when he doesn’t trust her.

“His heart was a mirror image of mine, the missing piece.”

Hux truly has so many walls up after his divorce that also left him without his daughter. He has always been adamant on absolutely no relationships or letting anyone in. Everly is well aware and doesn’t try to change this outlook, but she falls for him anyway. She just wants him to get his daughter back and help out where she can. She has such a great personality because she doesn’t let Hux steamroll her and doesn’t put up with his grumpy attitude. I loved the couple as a whole and individually.

"This marriage had begun as a lie. A ruse. A hoax. Turns out, the only people we’d been bluffing were ourselves."

The Bluff gripped me from the very first page!!!
It's like Willa crawled inside of my brain and wrote exactly what I needed right now.

Great read! I love how the events of The Bribe trickled over into The Bluff, it gives a better understanding of Everly's mindset and where she is at.

Hux is 100% swoon worthy. I love how hard he tries to get daughter back and how Everly is willing to help him!

“Who are you and what have you done with my scowling husband?” He flashed me his breathtaking smile. “My wife told me to work on that scowl.”

3.5 - 4 stars.

This is a small town marriage of convenience romance that starts with a one night stand. Hux has been trying to get custody of his 16 year old daughter for a long time. But he never succeeded and his lawyer suggests as a joke that things might be easier if he had a wife. Everly who overheard this offers to be his wife to help him out.

Let me start with Everly. She’s such a great character. She deserves the world but none of them except Lucy deserved her. She got so much crap from Hux and the people in his life. But every time she got down she puts on a smile and goes on.

Ok so Hux was frustrating a lot of times. He didn’t have it easy and it’s no surprise that he’s grumpy and closed off. But man did he screw up with Everly. There were times when I wanted to reach into the book and just slap him silly for the way he treated her. But then we get to his pov and see all the shit he’s went through and you feel bad for him. And there was some groveling in the end which helped. I just wish there was a chapter from his pov that showed us how miserable he was without Everly.

Overall I liked the writing and the characters. And I didn’t realize this was the second book of the series. There were mentions about things that happened in the first book and I’m definitely going to read it. And the teaser in the epilogue for the next book has me intrigued as well.

My my my what a brooding beautiful beast Hux is! I have found a new favorite with this book.

Hux has a past, one that the small town of Calamity won’t let him forget. Everly is a bit lost after a stalker turned her world upside down. When one night of fun turns into another turns into a fake marriage these two work to navigate their new lives together. Everly is all about assisting Hux into turning his image around and Everly remains a mystery through most of the book. Her part of the story was a sad one and although I didn’t love her at the beginning she grew on me. You’ll have all the feels with these two and this small town romance!

I'm so in love with Hux!

I am in love with the Calamity Montana series. The setting is perfect and you quickly fall in love with each of the characters. We were first introduced to Everly in the first book, The Bribe, and after the events that took place, I was dying for her story.

The fake relationship/marriage trope is one of my favorites and I couldn't have asked for more with the small town setting, single parent, strong heroine, and swoony hero mixed in. Hux and Everly had me hooked from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see how everything played out between these two. Hux was a brooding alpha male but was so dang swoony at the same time. Everly is much stronger a character than she even realizes and I loved watching her be Hux's perfect match.

Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
