An incredibly important memoir to me. I’m a huge fan of his work, but it’s the first memoir I read that was really raw and I’ve always appreciated it for that

The cliche of the unhappy clown is nevertheless entirely appropriate in this brutally honest and moving autobiography. The good news as readers is that we know he is now happily married with a fulfilling, varied career. I did skim over some of the detailed information about his TV and radio work and there is no doubt he can be very coarse at times but he also comes across as very kind and caring as well as talented, but never arrogant.

Disappointingly detached. Walliams writes of topics like his depression, suicide attempts and strained relationship with his parents and it is no way emotionally engaging. Maybe he wanted it to be matter of fact.

The first book I have read in 7 years and I loved it. Particularly I liked how vulnerable he became when writing it, talking about his experiences with suicide.

2.5/5 stars.
So as a kid I watched Little Britain, I didn't understand any of the jokes but I still though it was funny. Recently I was watching David Walliams swim the English channel on youtube and I wanted to know more about him, he's a really funny guy but what did I really know about David Walliams?

Well first of all, this book is incredibly honest, in this book Walliams talks about his depression, reading that was hard. Even though he appears as a happy funny guy on screen, during the filming of the first series of Little Britain David was incredibly depressed most of the time and contemplated suicide multiple times throughout his life.
He talks about family, friends and girlfriends he had over time. Learning about how many different jobs/roles he had before Matt and him wrote Little Britain was interesting.

I did skim a lot towards the end as I didn't get all the shows he was talking about and I didn't know who some of the english comedians were. I also spotted a few typos too.

Overall I enjoyed this and the writing was pretty simple and easy to follow, it wasn't an amazing book but it was nice to learn a bit more about how Walliams got to where he is now.

This was not a happy book. Quite tragic actually, but a good read.

I loved this so much. I've acquired a deep found respect for David after reading about his struggles in life (many of which I have first-hand experience with). He's truly inspirational and I think this book was exactly what I needed to read. Unfortunately, we can't all go check into The Priory when we feel suicidal, but the message of 'keep on keeping on' rings true. I really enjoyed his words and read the entire thing in less than a day whilst walking around the beautiful town of Stratford-upon-Avon. Highly recommended.

I picked this up on a whim and was surprsied how good it is. This isn't just another story of a comedian putting in the hours and getting his shot. David Walliams shows how much hard work and dedication is involved. Over a decade trying out ideas, working here and there, before finally getting something that really worked. It could so easily have not happened.
But this isn't only the story of how he grew from school comedian to part of the successful Little Britain duo. It's an honest account of every aspect of his life throughout those years. His stormy relationships and battle with depression.
I would not have described myself as a Little Britain fan particularly but this autobiography is a good read in it's own right.
