UGH. This started off so strong. The characters were hilarious and likeable. The plot was, while predictable, interesting and I was enjoying it.

Then Marc became a jerk and Madison tried to change almost everything about herself to suit him. The ending tried to rectify that, but it was too little, too late for me.

They also drank alcohol/got drunk way too much for my liking, but that's personal preference.

I was hoping McGee would be the next Sophie Kinsella or Jane Costello but no. This book had so much potential and I guess, for some people, it could be funny but for me...all this talking made the story flat.

If I could describe the writing, it would be ''written by a teenager on the verge of adulthood''. There was too much talking, describing things, even though some things are completely logical. The heroine is a comic-con nerd, drawing cartoons/comics about a ''relationship'' with her roommate Marc, who is a history professor. There is much more focus on how they both describe wines than their relationship together. Seriously, even I know now something about wine. I was missing a special chapter for an epilogue (an epilogue was included in the last chapter though)... just, you know. I like prologues/epilogues being separated.

So all in all, 3 stars.

I wish I had a glass of wine while I was reading this.
Two people who suck at seduction practice on each other.
The read was good, and easy. There were times where it felt a little slow, but all in all, I'd be willing to read it again!

Received as an ARC.

I didn't really like this book. It kinda felt like a porn; going from one sex scene to the other, with only some dialogue to make the semblance of a story...

At first I wasn't sure because the narrator's voice was a tad annoying, but by the end the voice totally worked for me. One thing I love about Kayti McGee's books, or at least the ones I've read so far, is that they're set in Kansas City, where I live. This book was hilarious. The awkwardness of the main character, I totally feel that way, still, even with past experience I've had with dating and sex, etc. There were a couple of really good lines in the book. One about how guys are so good at ruining your daydreams about them when you see them in person. And then when she talked about makeup being like having a coloring book on your face. However the character liked that, she was an artist. Me, so very NOT artistic, I feel like I'm a kid who can't color in the lines, and that's what it looks like when I put my makeup on. I don't know if I agree with the thoughts about FSoG, but it was a good aspect to add to the story. Lots of laugh out loud bits in this one.

Fun and witty, but it dragged at the end. And I didn't care for Madison enough. Her personality wouldn't jive with mine.

I love Screwmates it's so funny. I didn't want to put it down. Love that Madison loves comic books and superheros. Five stars. Love Kayti Mcagee's books. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Laughs and sexy

Enjoyed this book. Love romances with comedy in it too! Very entertaining. Even got a little tad bit emotional at the end. But overall a great read.

Interesting

Definitely more of a fanfic type of read. Enjoyed but was almost expected. Good read though and really quick too.

This has definitely been my week for amazeballs rom-coms and I think that Screwmates by Kayti McGee tops the list. Oh my goodness this book made me laugh until I needed to pee! And while childbirth has made this somewhat easier in theory, it does take someone with incredible writing skill and wit to pull it off. This had everything I absolutely love in books—great banter, awkward situations, and pop culture references. The TARDIS was even mentioned and for the Whovian in me, that makes me squee in excitement.

Madison is geeky, socially awkward and absolutely adorable. I totally got her right from the start. I wanted to adopt her as my little sister and keep her in my pocket or something. She’s got more talent in her little pinky then I do in my arm. Marc is serious, studious and is convinced his life is as dull as his couch color. It’s like the battle of the geeks vs. the nerds (and yes there is a difference!). The banter, the awkwardness between these two was hilarious. There was some great tension as well and fabulous heat. It takes some skill to balance humor and red hot heat but McGee definitely pulled it off. The secondary characters were just as great. I loved all of Madison’s friends.

The character development was great. Both Madison and Marc were decently complex people with insecurities and flaws that made them relatable. I was able to easily connect with them, even if I disagree with Marc about his lingerie choice (Wonder Woman can be sexy!). This book definitely checked all the boxes on what I want from a rom-com. I cannot wait to see what else McGee has to offer and this one is definitely going on my re-read shelf.

If you love to laugh, you have to check this book out. Just be careful while drinking, snorting anything out through your nose is painful. Trust me.
