2.5⭐️ I loved what this book could have been. I still thought it was okay as it was, but I wish it had more detail. About their attraction/chemistry, how they got to where they were in their lives, trying to figure out what they wanted, something. I felt like the most detail was about how hot Maverick found Carys. And then all of a sudden they were in love. Yeah they talked a bit and went out together, but it was so fast without much depth. I wanted to be able to connect to the MCs but it was so difficult for me.

The characters, most the supporting ones, were fun and really kept the book moving along for me. I liked how they looked out for Carys. The setting and atmosphere really added to the story. I loved that the Blue Bayou was a family place and that the local businesses would all help each other out. And the journal aspect was a really touching piece to their puzzle.

It also took me a really long time to get into this book. I started it like 3 times in 3 days and couldn’t get past the first couple chapters. It got better, but the beginning didn’t hook me. Throughout, I couldn’t get past how much of a mess Carys was and that she needed Maverick to rescue her when she had people who had worked there for years. Why didn’t she figure things out sooner? And why couldn’t Maverick just be more upfront. I dislike when characters not communicating is the conflict in a book.

What a delightful story. Even though this love story happens fast it didn't feel like it. There was a depth to it that I really appreciated. Fantastic premise and a setting to die for. I liked the characters. They were real. Even the secondary characters were essential to the story. I hope that many of them get their own book.

This book wasn’t bad but it was kind of boring. That’s why it took me so long to read it. I’m usually able to read a book in no more then 2 days because it catches me and I have to finish it. But this book took me 3 weeks to finish. I will likely not be reading this book again.

Holy book hangover, Batman! I absolutely adored every aspect of this story; from the charmingly authentic settings to the crazy chemistry between flawed but absolutely lovable characters this book was Everything!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Maverick is tired of the life he's living. He hates the job he has but wants to help people. He doesn't like tearing things or people down. So he does the only thing he can think of, he leaves. He goes to New Orleans, but not to where he normally goes. He ends up at the Blue Bayou and something about this place makes him feel at home. It doesn't hurt that the owner is beautiful and stirs something in him.

Carys loves her home, she doesn't know anything different this hotel is her family. It's rough but she's willing to do whatever she has to do to take care of Blue Bayou and the people that work there. Maverick walks in and she was smitten. He's almost too good to be true, he helps her and he fixes things for her and he makes her feel things that she shouldn't be. He's just tempory, she has to keep her head about her.

I loved the heat that sizzled between Carys and Maverick. Maverick was a great guy with a good heart. I think that Carys could sense that in him. Maverick wanted to do more with his life but how could he take the risk? Run don't walk and check out the Blue Bayou. These authors have a way of making you feel like you step right into New Orleans, feeling the muggy air and the sounds of the city. You won't regret diving into this book.

The idea of the story is promising. A rich hero, on so much needed vacation, meets with damsel in distress. Plus with the background of New Orleans, it seems a sure thing. The beginning of the story is really promising. The hero desperate for his father approval. His father treating him like any other employee. Then when the story progress, it becomes downhill.

The conversations on this book is looks like being cut and paste from other books so making this book lack of originality. The character development also feel like being cut and paste. The layers, the plot and the climax is weak. The insta lust is not convincing.

Overall lack of originality.

It just felt unnatural. The dialogue is not as smooth as what I'm used to from Jiffy Kate. So sadly, I'm stopping now.

This was a great quick read! Every time I read a Jiffy Kate book I think to myself why has it taken me so long to read this! This book captures my attention from the very beginning. I loved Maverick and Carys. I also loved that there was no drawn out unnecessary drama. I would absolutely recommend this book!

One of my favorite parts of this story was the way it made me feel as if I was back in the middle of one of my favorite cities, New Orleans. So much about this made me long to be there, even with the sweltering humidity, I was reminded of the wonderful food and the lively people and atmosphere that makes the city such a unique and fun place to visit. The characters were ones that made good romantic interests for each other, and had their own personalities that were a perfect fit to make their match.

At times the writing made such wonderful use of descriptive language that I was itching to pick up my own novel I’ve been working on and try to see if I could come up with my own vivid imagery. Once or twice though, it seemed to be a bit more of telling than the showing that is recommended for fiction. And some of the storyline was a bit predictable, but then again, so many romances use those same types of situations to create the drama, so I can’t really fault the story for that, just because it is a pet peeve of my own. It’s these things though that kept my rating to a 4 star instead of any higher.

But back to the food! I was reminded of my love of beignets, I could almost taste the sweet powdery sugar fried pastry as I listened to the story. And then the description of the special Blue Bayou flavored macaron made me actually want to give these cookies another try, even though every experience I’ve ever had with them has been a negative – dry and bland.

And finally, the cast of characters was great, and as I finished up, I was hopeful for stories of the two that I know are coming up in the other two books of the series that work at the bar called Come Again, and the coffee shop called Neutral Grounds.

Oh, and I have to also talk about the narrators, because I really liked both of them! Although I did get a little annoyed with how the female narrator got about saying macaron, other than that she had the perfect voice for this character. And the male narrator is one that I know I’ve heard before, and I really like him as well.

Jiffy Kate are a new to me authors and I was not disappointed.

Eventually everyone comes back to the Blue Bayou.

Maverick Kensington needs a break from his life when he stumbles upon a small historic hotel and its gorgeous owner. Carys Matthews is stunned when this man walks into her hotel, even more stunned with much this man is willing to help her.

Carys is such a loveable character. She is so down to earth and real. It is so easy to connect with her. She works hard at keeping the hotel running in memory of her family. Mav, well what else can you say about him? I was crushing on him from the very beginning.

The secondary characters in this story are also fantastic, which I find rare for a lot of stories. George and Mary are sweet and really like parental figures for Carys, CeCe and Shep are great friends and Jules may be my favorite, I mean, how can you not want to be his best friend and hang out with him?! Some of the things he said would have my dying of laughter.

This story is sweet, it is steamy, and it will make you laugh. I can’t wait to read more from Jiffy Kate in the future.
