Volume 2 is much more wordy and complex than the first. I actually read it a week or two ago (the night after reading Vol. 1) and forgot to review it promptly, so some of my thoughts and questions have faded.

Certain panels in Vol. 1 reminded me of the video game Hotline Miami, or even the first two Grand Theft Auto games - both games feature overhead, god-like POV with increasingly difficult scenarios that involve amassing a huge body count in a small physical area. Vol. 2 continues this, and specifically makes use of Jimmy's math and logic skills to narrowly escape traps.

An excellent follow-up to the first volume - smart, action packed and filled with great plot twists. Some people will be turned off by the high death count and the immoral actions of Jimmy, but anyone that made it through the first volume will be pleased with where Jason Shiga takes the story.

Reviewed from an advance reader from NetGalley.

Jimmy is the most unlikable protagonist I’ve ever encountered. A+

Volume 2 was definitely more complicated than Volume 1. I had to pay attention to understand who he was possessing. I liked the twist in the storyline and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Idk why I love this so much. But I really do. The story telling is so well done!! And great uses of negative space literally everywhere.

Somewhat of a drop off from the first volume for several reasons. The beginning of the book appears to take us in a more traditional direction, plot-wise. The end of the book takes a left turn that isn't a full surprise, but still made me question the purpose of everything that came before. And the center of the book was confusing enough that I needed to read it twice to parse the action sequences.

Mind you, I'm not stopping reading the series (this is clearly one of Shiga's more fascinating works), but I am somewhat concerned about the overall direction.

I thoroughly enjoyed the puzzly and over-the-top nature of the first book which was a bit of a locked-room mystery story. Meanwhile, this one's almost pure action movie with a demon-twist. It really ups the ante in the crazy action department while really exploring all the outlandish possibilities of its premise. I like how both Jimmy and the authorities are both constantly thinking (or trying to) 100 moves ahead of their opponent, correctly predicting ridiculous assumptions on each others' behalfs. I also love how Jimmy conducts a series of murderous trial & error experiments to test the limits of his abilities. There's an intense logic game quality to the narrative with jarring, but fascinating time leaps between panels and pages. It all makes sense, but you sometimes have to flit back and forth between pages before there's a great AHA! moment. Can't wait for the next one.

The first volume of this series was such a weird story that just kept the reader saying "what is even going on here??" the whole time. Volume 2 picks up right after Volume 1, but now readers have a better idea of what Jimmy Yee can do. The first half of this book is a crazy story of Jimmy trying to understand his powers more then things get insane halfway through and don't let up until the final page.
