Slow start for me with this one. Some of the content matter could be considered triggering.
I enjoyed it though as the gripping storylines of Alex and his family continue.

Book on CD performed by Peter Jay Fernandez and Denis O’Hare

Alex Cross has left the Washington DC police department to join the FBI. He’s still in training, but his reputation precedes him and so he is tapped to lead a major investigation into a kidnapping ring. The criminal mastermind behind the kidnapping spree is a Russian Mafia kingpin called The Wolf. Brilliant, ruthless, cunning, and incredibly wealthy, he is always ahead of the FBI who bumble along making mistake after mistake. Only Alex Cross seems to have any brains among his new cohorts.

Speaking of which, Patterson’s plot is full of mistakes, holes, subplots that go nowhere, and an obvious set-up to continue the lucrative franchise. But I have to give the guy credit for being able to craft suspense. He has mastered the genre; short sentences, short paragraphs, short chapters that always end just before the reader is satisfied, all add up to a formula that keeps you turning pages.

Fernandez and O’Hare do a credible job of voicing the many characters. My main complaint about the audio book is the cheesy “suspense” music and deep studio-enhanced voice that announces each chapter as if one’s life depended on this information. Then there’s the even cheesier “soft” music alerting us to a tender scene with Cross and his children. Puh-leeze!

Alex Cross is at it again...tis time as an FBI agent-in-training.  He left MPD (DC Police) as a homicide detective to join the FBI and become an agent.  And is immediately thrust into horrific kidnap/murder case with a diabolically brutal serial killer.  But, of course, nothing is as simple as it may seem and under the surface there seems to be more craziness than anyone can imagine.  Alex is tasked with discovering who the culprit may be and stopping him/her before anyone else is killed.  Each clue leads to more uncertainty and we are taken on a roller coaster ride of harrowing action and horrible deviance.  Not to mention, his former fiancee returns to Washington, DC and wants to be a part of their son's life in a more permanent way. I really did enjoy the fast pace of this book as well and the twists and turns that arise all throughout. I love Alex Cross and his friends and family and the dynamic they share with one another.  I give this book 4.8 stars which I will round up to 5 stars.

The next installment of the Alex Cross series, continues to develop and continuing with previous storylines, bringing Alex Cross more to life than ever before. This time around Alex is starting his new adventure in the workforce, facing corporate pressures and family struggles, while remembering that he may never be out of danger.

Alex is on the hunt for an unknown group of men who apparently selling and buying white women into sexual slavery. Meanwhile, a surprise visitor rocks Alex’s world like never before.

I’m starting to enjoy the series more and more, and look forward to the next edition, leading up to the latest release, Alex Cross’s Trial.
