“Damn everyone and everything,” he said in a low voice. But as he saw the indignant expression on Lottie’s face, he added, “Except for you.”

In their own ways, both Nick and Lottie view love and trusting others as a trap. At first, Nick was quite judgmental in thinking of Lottie as a schoolgirl who could not possibly have experienced any difficulties. In fact, they've both been through some really shitty stuff. I enjoyed Nick being forced to face both that fact along with the demons of the past. But even more, one of the best parts of the book was Lottie facing her demon - especially after the men close to her felt it was their duty to protect her.

The book started with Nick learning a lot about sex, skills he then made use of in...interesting ways. However, at times I felt as though I was either reading something a man with a bombastic view of his own skills would write OR I was reading a woman's impossible dream of there ever being a man with such skills.

I've grown quite weary of added dramatics towards the end of books. The fact that they would face mortal danger at the same time felt very over-the-top. On the other hand, such dramatics do propel the characters (and their development) further very quickly, making the author able to wrap up the story in an emotionally gratifying way.

I truly loved every book in this series! Lisa Kleypas just knows how to write a swoony novel.

I absolutely adored Nick and his whole backstory. I love an ex bad boy turned romantic.

This book wasn’t a five star read because the end felt really rushed to me but other than that I loved it.

4,5 stars. This was almost perfect except for like one scene. Also not five stars because I didn’t get that feeling I get when I read something like ‘Chasing Cassandra’ or ‘Love in the Afternoon’.

Still this was amazing and the characters felt like real people. I did think it was nice that neither of them said they loved each other until they were done with their internal problems (respectively). I also loved how Nick worked hard to un-teach Lottie all the awful things she was made to believe. And of course how could I forget Lottie and how understanding she was and helpful too in Nick getting over his trauma.

If I thought Lady Sophia’s lover was the hottest Kleypas book quantitative wise, I think this book just beat it.

Perfect ending for this book, in regards to Lottie and that gross old man.

Oh and just a note for myself but this book reminded me of the first Brutal Birthright book by Sophie Lark

The beginning was good and I really liked the characters. Nick was super hot with a delicious edge of danger about him. Lottie was kind of badass in a way, definitely not weak or highly dependant and I appreciated that. However, the story lost my interest about halfway through unfortunately... I guess it just wasn't for me. Also, I do love sex scenes in books but I felt like there were way too many in this one and it took away from the story. Like we get it, Nick is a freaking sexpert but do we really need allllll those sex scenes to come to that conclusion? No, we really don't.

As I get farther into reading historicals, I begin to see why Lisa Kleypas is considered one of the best. The hero and heroine in this book were both exactly the kind that appeal to me, and the relationship was well-drawn. Another series I'll be looking more into!

Dear Nick Gentry,

I want to sincerely apologize for my extreme dislike of you in Lady Sophia's Lover. I am going to attribute it to the fact that I didn't really know you and the fact that you only showed me your Extreme Jerk-Off side in the previous book.

Over three years later, I now see that I judged you too quickly. All you needed was someone to give you a chance at a better life to prove your worth. Thank God you were able to receive that chance. Because now you are no longer a reckless, devil may care bad boy. You have realized that you have a good life and things worth living for. You've gone from only caring about yourself to considering the lives of others.

You learned to trust another human being with your secrets, pain, fears, and doubts.

You have learned to love. And you learned that the love of those you care about most is worth any price...

I am so glad to have been able to witness this transformation in you, my love.

Love always,
Leah

Dear Lottie,

Thank you for being you. I loved you from the beginning of your adventure with the infamous Nick Gentry. You immediately enchanted me with your charming, open personality and the beauty of you, inside and out. You infect everyone with your wonderfulness and you are one of the best heroines I have come across in a long time.

Thank you for helping my Nick grow into the wonderful person we all knew he was. However, he wasn't the only one who grew. You learned to trust and rely on Nick, and you opened yourself to love despite your rocky start with him. I am so glad to have been able to witness the change in you also.

With love,
Leah

My Beloved Marcus, Lord Westcliff,

I sincerely thank you for being your delicious, sexy, wonderful self. This book was awesome, but even if it had sucked, it would have rocked because you were in it. You can always make anything better.

I will love you forever,
Lady Leah Westcliff

Dear Sophia,

You rock, girl.

Love ya,
Leah

Dear Ross,

You make me love you even more with every page you are on.

Yours,
Leah

P.S. If you can find a time machine, we have these things now called condoms, birth control, and other contraception. Try it if you want to prevent more pregnancy. Muah!

Sayer,

If you ever again cause my Nick to get hurt, I will personally skin you alive.

Watch your back,
Leah

Lord Radnor,

I'm glad you're dead.

Fuck you,
Leah

Dear Lisa Kleypas,

I bow down to your literary genius. You have wooed and won me once again with the amazing story of Nick Gentry.

I loved the plot and thought you executed it beautifully. It reminded me a little of Ten Ways to be Adored When Landing a Lord by Sarah MacLean with Nick searching for Lottie, and a little of your own Married by Morning by Lottie being promised to Lord Radnor and running away. I liked that, however, and it made me love the story even more, oddly enough.

To a job well done, I salute you.

Sincerely,
Leah

(P.S. Yes, I know both those books were written after this one.)

Favorite Quote:
"You wouldn't make a wish."

"Because I didn't know what I wanted. And now I do."

"What do you want?" she asked tenderly.

His hands slipped behind her head, pulling her mouth down to his. "To love you forever," he whispered just before their lips met.

There's a reason why this has the highest rating among the three books in this series and that's because it's deserving of it. I definitely liked this more than I did Lady Sophia's Lover despite hating Nick Gentry's character in that book.

Reformed rakes are a hit or miss trope for me. Fortunately for this one, I really enjoyed it because it was executed well (okay maybe that first chapter was unnecessary but I guess it gave Nick some skills if you know what I mean). The romance was surprisingly endearing too. However, there are several unanswered questions by the end. Moreover, the epilogue consisted mainly of Ross and Sophia!! Like!! This isn't about them!!

Anyway, it's true what everyone says – this is the spiciest and steamiest LK series. She just doesn't do it like this anymore LOL (that won't stop me from reading her future releases tho)

Nick Gentry, former criminal, has been forced by his brother-in-law to become a Bow Street Runner in order to escape the hangman’s noose. Reluctantly great at his job, Nick is the man to hire if you need to find the unfindable. His latest client wants his fiancé back, but when Nick meets Charlotte, he decides to keep her for himself and marry her! Nick has worked hard to forget his former life as the son of a viscount, but after further meddling from Sir Ross, he’ll have to face the music sooner rather than later. With Charlotte by his side, Nick deals with the fallout of being outed as the heir to his parent’s estate and title. It’s a Lisa Kleypas novel, so of course I loved it!
