I wanted to like this book, I really did. Prologue is kind of jarring, but the worldbuilding is fascinating. It’s post apocalyptic meets high fantasy. I wanted to see how dark it would go.

But it fumbled hard.

It took me a while to get into the flow of the story, and my biggest issue comes down to Wotan. I strongly feel like the author waffled on how to characterize him. Wotan begins as someone dark and dubious, but then he gets chopped up into a saccharine lover.

It begins when Wotan is given anxiety about their mating bond. He said the bond was permanent! But then it backtracks to Acktually if Ryder rejects the bond it will break. Artificial vulnerability fucking shit. Cowardly in fact. Almost makes me want to DNF.

Considering how proud Wotan was in taking what he wanted from Ryder, it then becomes tedious how much Wotan ruminates about consent. It’s artificial filler for drama and suspense that’s not earned. Cowardly backpedaling to make Wotan more palatable.

Quick & very spicy read. The world building & plot definitely kept unfolding as you read more and more. Will definitely be reading book 2!

So... I'm a bit torn... Wotan and Ryder were HAWT!!! Seriously sizzling hot and I loved their interactions, but we spent a lot of time in their musings with nothing really happening so the book felt looooong and I started skimming after the 63%

I would have liked a little bit to have developed on page between those two, through dialogue, not that their ILUS weren't believable but just a tad unsubstantiated. Especially since when one moment Wotan says things to push Ryder away and the next they are going at it in the woods and Wotan is making him his mate.

The story line about Ryder's grandmother took its sweet time to develop, while those two were humming and hawing their relationship, and was resolved quite quickly.

I am curious about Rune's story though so I'll be definitely diving into the next one.

ACOTAR meets 50 shades in this MM Red Ridinghood retelling!

Damn! This book was so good.

Was there toxic relationship type vibes? Yes, but I honestly hate when people go into books like this and then hate it for those reasons. This is an almost mafia boss like fairytale retelling of Red Ridinghood w/ a MM relationship. These men are masculine, possessive, and forceful. They are powerful and dominant, and one of the MC's definitely uses that to his advantage...

Don't read it if you aren't into that kind of thing.

That being said, it was

The perfect retelling!

It has everything a story needs when it comes to love, family, and mythical creatures. There are so many giddy parts in this book that I am now fangirling for MORE!!! Ryder and Wotan are the best, and I need more of their story!

This is a Red riding hood retelling but make it MM and spicy. We have a world of mythical creatures, magic, fun characters and a good world building. I loved the main characters and their story; Dominant and possessive Wotan and the sweetest and submissive Ryder, a sniveling witchy bitchy grandmother and characters that will hopefully appear in other books in the series. This was a great start to the series and I had so much fun reading it❤️❤️

This is definitely a fairytale retelling that is very loosely based on the original work. That being said, I enjoyed this darker MM Red Riding Hood retelling. The plot and the world-building was engaging, but the book does not stand very strongly without its smut. I also struggled a bit with the way Wotan, lord of the hunt, kept withholding key information from Ryder, that the latter would have needed in order to give informed consent to what was happening to him (not necessarily sexually, but romantically). But in all fairness, I picked this up because I wanted to read some dark smut, and that's exactly what I got. I probably won't continue with the series anytime soon, but if I'm ever in the mood for a similar story, I think I would enjoy the rest of the series as well.
