I'm gonna be completely honest with you guys and say that, even though I still love this series, the action, the surprising dark turns these books sometimes take, the perfect humor and the magic system with all the magic stuff it comes with, I mainly stayed for the characters and for their romance.
I found myself liking Ceony less and less with every book, but she ended up being okay in the end. I don't wanna strangle her anymore for one, which is a big improvement since The Glass Magician fiasco that turned into a literal walking punch magnet, but she wasn't the sassy and brave piece of cake I adored in The Paper Magician, either.
That being sad, once you got past all her get being petty, reckless and kinda selfish, you could see and appreciate the fact that she could be incredibly sweet, smart, funny and mature when she wanted to, so I guess I'll have to give her the benefit of the doubt.
Emery Thane, on the other hand...
Man, I'm not sure I've ever found a book character I've ever loved as much as I do him. I'm seriously considering the fact that I may be a little in love with him and his OCD quirks for real, to be honest.
I may be also sleep deprived, so don't mind me, but in case you're reading this bunch of nonsense and are pitying me, I suggest to go read these three books and not fall far Mr I-Own-A-Trench-For-Every-Color-Of-The-Rainbow at least an itty bitty bit.
Overall, this book was a great conclusion to a series that I couldn't help but love and that kept me entertained for hours.
Maybe it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat and I still have some answers that will forever remain unanswered, but as I said, the plot wasn't my main priority and I'm pretty happy with what I got.
I'm a little said to say goodbye, but I'm aware that good things are supposed to end before they go stale and, as long as my paper heart beats, I know I'll always have a beautiful story (and a beautiful, awkward Paper Magician) to think back to whenever I feel like it.

A good series and I will read Plastic Magician. I'm not sure why it can't always hold my attention. The audio is good too-- I was flipping back and forth between print and audio which was really fun too. This is such a cool world and has such interesting characters. I do and will recommend this book to others.

This was my least favorite book of the trilogy. There were things I liked a lot about it, but unfortunately by this point I felt like Ceony should have grown and matured a bit more. Her actions were still reckless, even after everything that happened in the first two books. It was like she never learned to use her head and think things through first, and she ended up jumping into situations she shouldn't have. This was acceptable in the first book and even a bit in the second because she was new to everything and young, but three years goes by between the second and last book so I feel like she should have learned from her past mistakes by then.
I did like that Ceony learns how to use the other types of magic, and learning about how they worked was also something I enjoyed about the book, though it did feel like the excisioners were too overpowered compared to the other types of magic. It didn't seem like the same kind of rules applied to them, but maybe that was because they were using a dark, forbidden magic. I don't know, but it was definitely unbalanced. I did like the way this ended, and although I'm not going to say how the villain dies, I will say that it had me giggling...and yes I know it probably doesn't sound right to giggle about a death, but the way it happened was so amusing to me.

I really enjoyed this book and this series. The author figured out how to bring the past story information forward into this book without the need to re-tell the story this time (much the relief because this was a big complaint in book 2). Overall i loved the world -i liked the kind of magic and its possibilities and limitations.
I do hope this is not the last book in the series .. And i really really hope someone in Pixar picks this up and decides to bring it to life as an animation- these books would make a great movie

Not a bad book, but I didn't enjoy this final installment as much as the first two. Overall, this was a decent trilogy but nothing spectacular. I adored Ceony and Emery's scenes and wish there had been more of their interactions.

Very enjoyable ending to Ceony's and Emery's story. The world develops even further alongside its familiar and new characters. The romance is charming while, on the opposite spectrum, the villain is quite dastardly. Stakes are raised, and Ceony's newly-acquired skills really shine. Holmberg does a great job setting up her plot and unraveling the dangers. This is a world I would love to be a part of, especially as someone who loved to fold origami growing up. A quick read but also a creative and original story that I devoured. Highly recommend series for fans of magic, historical backdrops, and delightful characters--particularly females finding their place in the world.
