I was landing a supersonic jet for the second time by myself. The first time had been a lot more exciting, and I define exciting to mean survival was nowhere close to a given. -Kitty Katt

This is, like, the 3rd sci-fi book I've ever read. Sure, it has a heavier emphasis on the love-connection side of things, compared to the level I think most traditional science fiction books carry (though, I wouldn't actually know. Like I said, not typically a genre I submerge myself in). I'm more of a UF/PNR girl, myself.

But, wow. I mean, I really, really enjoyed the first book in Gini Koch's Kitty Katt series, but I was not prepared for how awesome this one would be. It was just as funny--if not funnier--than its first, and I swear, the action was ten-fold. I didn't think that would even be possible, with how action-packed "Touched by an Alien" was, but sure enough, "Alien Tango" did not disappoint. Dead bodies piling up, bullets flying, lots of explosions, mystery, reptiles, and half-naked, gorgeous men. What more can an adrenaline junkie ask for? It's the hilarious, sexy, edge-of-your-seat kind of stuff I crave. Definitely would recommend!!

Really good sequel, but all the men liking Kitty, as well as Jeff's jealousy over every guy is pretty ridiculous.

Te first book in the series got a three star only because I felt like reading the second book, and I figure any book that makes me want to read the sequel should get a three star. This book was much better. The heroine still follows the romance trope of every male wanting her ( at least the author did not pull in any lesbians to desire her - I don't have a problems with lesbians, just did not want kitty katt turning into Anita Blake!) but somehow the book was not as irritating as the first was in many places. Maybe because she felt less need to over explain her world? An not really sure why it was so much enjoyable.

Argh,I had also written a rant going in about how she has kitty drinking real coke, which is a good beverage, not the foul swill that most other romance books have their heroines drink called DIET coke...

The pros:

Funny
Lots of sci-fi action
Great sexy chemistry between Kitty and her sexy alien boyfriend Jeff
Not as info-dumpy as the first -- thank goodness!
Good progression of the earlier storyline
Good expansion of the character universe (Paul's brother, Jeff's family etc.)
Kitty's confrontation with Jeff's mother (who dislikes Kitty)
The scenes with the alligators as well as Kitty's nick-naming of them
The car chase at the end was hysterical especially Kitty's tearful goodbyes to her family relayed to the disembodied OnStar like operator (she was convinced she was about to be killed)

The Cons:

The Fabulous Kitty. This is my biggest problem with the book. It detracts me from being able to wholeheartedly enjoy this book. Kitty is wonderful, always. She figures out things all the time that no one else can. Really, Something "tickles in her brain' and she comes up with the perfect solution and explanation every. single. time. Meanwhile supposedly brilliant Aliens and agents are standing around loking like 'D'oh!'

She is the object of love and lust of every guy who meets her. In this one we meet her first boyfriend who has been so in love with Kitty (they broke up when they were sixteen) that he went off to become successful just to prove himself worthy of her love. He's been comparing every woman her's ever dated to Kitty and none has ever measured up. We also finally meet her best friend Chuckie who, as we learn, has also been madly in love with Kitty since forever and wants to lure her from Jeff. Then there is Paul's brother Michael who wants Kitty for himself as well. And lastly, there is a vast disembodied alien consciousness that has been protecting Earth for years who falls in love with Kitty. Seriously?

Look I like Kitty, she's a great character but she is the most extreme Mary Sue I have ever met in fiction.

Conclusion:

I really liked this book. And I am enjoying this series. I just wish the author would tone down the extreme Fabulousness of Kitty. She can still be an awesome character and heroine without being so extra-wonderful.

I had a great time reading this book. However, it is not a good book. I kind of liken it to reading bad fanfiction, you go in knowing that a lot of it won't be plausible but you have such a good time while reading it you just don't care. I wouldn't rec this to anyone but I'm sticking with it because it's so bad it's kind of good.

I am going to go with 3.5 stars as I keep fluctuating between 3 and 4.

4 because it is very entertaining and funny. I love the name Kitty chooses for the speedy alligator and I love her smackdown of Jeff's family.

3 stars because I just don't understand why she picked jealous, possessive control freak Jeff. If my daughter dated someone like that I would be VERY concerned. Especially the way he doesn't even want her talking to her best friend whom she has been friends with since she was 14 just because he is a guy - (note he hates her talking to him long before he finds out he wants to marry her). That is the sort of behavior abusers start off with - isolating their partner from friends, jealous rages if they talk to other men - its scary not romantic.

Well it wasn't as good as the first. Which is becoming a bit of a trend for me. I think the first books in a series are always the best because they're new and exciting. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Alien Tango, and it still deserves 5 stars, it just wasn't a favorite like the first book was.
