There are so many story lines and characters in this book I found it difficult to follow at times, often the story felt a little choppy. I listened to this book on audio so I didn't notice the many errors that other readers have commented on. The narrator used many accents for all the characters and I found that helpful to differentiate which character was speaking. I enjoyed the historical aspect, you don't often hear about the female war efforts.

Average story, disappointing ending.

Storytelling seems rushed in the end. It looks like the author got too tired of telling the story that she jumped to the future to let the oldies tell their tales of war and decided to solve the mystery of one of them disappearing 50 yrs ago. Not buying this story. Bleh.

This was a really good story. Not nearly as depressing as most WWII stories. Once o got to know the epmen they became like friends - yet the were a very unlikely group of friends - it really was a goid representation of how the war warped expectations.
I lustened to the audio version of this book - 2 notes of discord - in the beginning of the book the accents and affect kept pulling me into the 1800s... so it took a bit before i settled into the 1930s... and then again - in the end the jump to the future was a little jarring - but i have to say thanks for the jump because i really wanted to know what ever became of the twins... one of those questions that would never be answered after the war because nobody would ever know for surew... a very real feeling from a very real time.
Great book

This book was ok, I enjoyed reading along and the pace was nice. The start introduced almost all the characters in one swoop which confused me and I don't like books or movies that do that. I often get lost and have to re-read to clarify. I'd rather they be introduced gradually and organically. I don't normally read about war because it upsets me, and this did a little, but not too badly. I did find it a little predictable, but not awfully.

It's a time period I love reading about, it was a fast read, and had interesting characters. It wasn't bad, by any means, but kind of disappointing, maybe? I felt that when it ended, there was a lot more that could have been done. I liked it, but struggled with the rating, for sure.

Ignoring the bad editing and proofreading that this e-book got before it was published I did enjoy the story, apart from the ending in present day. That was entierly too rushed and seemed like the author had just gotten bored with the story and kicked out an ending really quickly just to get it over and done with. Some of the characters I drew to like a lot didn't get an ending at all, like the vicar and Frances and Tanni's twin sisters who were in France. There was just a rushed, non explained, kind of boring ending to those stories which disappointed me greatly. The parts of the book set in wartime were good compared to the rest and it is just a shame that the rest of the book wasn't up to that standard.

I really enjoyed this story. I know many questioned it, but seeing as it is fiction it was a good story.

I'm halfway done with this one and not sure I can finish it, it's slow, poor editing and just annoying dialect. I skipped quite a bit hoping it would get better and I could get to the end to find out why they are meeting up again but haven't picked it back up yet. I picked it back up and I just can't finish this one. Done.
