This was extremely evocative and scary in the most subconscious of ways. As someone who lived in Buenos Aires for a year and became acquainted with the city and the country’s politics and issue, this couldn’t have been more perfect for me. I would say only two of these stories feel actually political, the rest of them are still incredibly resonant and I loved how they explored fears that felt so close to everyday life and as if they could happen to any of us.
Truly terrifying in the best way possible and very accomplished. I read this in Spanish and the writing was so fitting for these type of urban horror.
Will definitely read more of Mariana Enrique.

2.5 rounded up bc the stories i liked I really enjoyed but the ones I didn’t were tough to get through. But I can appreciate that this book is a good collection of stories even if it wasn’t a good fit for me

I'm not very used to reading short stories (I must have read only a handful of short story collections in my life), so my evaluation might not match that of people who've read a lot more than me.
I really enjoyed the stories, some more than others. At first I thought that The Well was going to be my favorite, but now that I've read all, I see that the ones who stuck with me the most were Meat and Kids Who Come Back. The author does a great job at creating eerie environments and grabing your attention, but I do feel that some stories ended too soon.
Interestingly, the story that lent her name to the title of the book was one of my least favorites.
Seeing as this is a translated copy, I hope to reread this book in spanish one day!

Definitely one of the best horror stories I have ever read. Didn't know urban horror was a thing but 100% Mariana Enriquez is on my "always read" list now. I devoured this collection and it devoured me as well.

some of the stories were not really developed and kind of trailed off towards the end
