I stopped reading at 80%, but didn't want to list it as DNFed.
I enjoyed what I read.
It's great autistic x ADHD rep.
I just get bored towards the end of some romance books.

A fun book, but the relationship started out really toxic. This same story could have been told from a healthy perspective. All of this kinky stuff can be done with consent. And the punishments in the beginning of the book were not fun, no matter how much Merikan wanted the reader to see it that way. But once the relationship is established it became much better.

The bi awakening portion was really interesting to read. His arbitrary rules of "it's not gay if-" and then he breaks it and moves the goalpost. Very realistic to how people rationalize things to themselves. I'm glad Hammer worked through it.

The writing was a random, amateurish mess that needed a lot more editing.

The scenes in the story, as well as Hammer's thoughts, were constantly jumping around and there was a lot of page time spent on pointless details and observations that were distracting and didn’t add anything meaningful to the story.
The characters all felt void of any real presence or personality in the story and they came across as unhinged, like their actions were just random outbursts that had no consistent reasoning to them. Like the one side character from the MC that is a described as a well-known womanizer, but then suddenly he gets caught looking at CP because apparently he’s not actually into women...? And he didn’t have better locks on his house to stop anyone from just strolling in? And he also didn’t hear a loud motorcycle pull up outside his home, or some giant dude coming into his house?

The main character, Hammer, was especially was hard to connect with because his character felt like he was trying to be too many things at once. His thoughts and opinions weren’t consistent, and he came across sometimes like he was almost simple-minded in his understanding of the world and the people in it, but then he would be described as this tough badass that enjoyed making people feel afraid.
Initially he acts outraged when he catches a club brother looking at CP, but then all he does is threaten the guy a little before he seems to just forget the whole thing so he can go chasing after a hookup (that said she didn’t want to see him anymore). And this dude is absolutely obsessed with anal, and badgering this woman to do it again, and this obsession takes total priority in his mind and actions over everything else, including problems with a drug shipment and catching a club member with CP. And it's just bizarre, because like wtf is with his priorities???

Everything about this story was weird, and not in a good way. This author is not one I’ll be picking up again.

It was a fast and entertaining read. Definitely recommend for any KA Merikan fans and anyone who likes dark romance that is not too heavy

This was so much fun!
and it's already happening, I'm not able to use all my words properly, so bear with this blubbering mess of a review:

Dex had already some cameos in the previous books "Scum" and "Primal" so now it's his moment to shine like a diamond, because D!ckhead is his story and was one of my most anticipated reads of 2023 and it didn't disappoint :D

Dex is a hidden Gem! I'm not the only person who thinks so, Hammer most definitely feels the same:
It was as if he’d found an unpolished diamond in a bucket of coal and was now worried about the implications of this unexpected luck.

Dex is sunshine personified, and while he is in fact extraordinarily dumb he's also quite unafraid to dive in every challenge head first! Seriously, it all started with him wanting to give head...So every once in a while he has some amazing moments where he's able to shine, even if it's just a shiner. My heart simply melted away bc he's this adorable level of dumb that I could laugh, cry and cuddle him all the time. There might've been some second hand embarrassment moment too, but well...I love it!

The online test jumped to results, informing him that he was forty-six percent gay.
Hammer was next-level!
I loved to see how his bi-awakening turned out, it was so much fun to read those elements while this wasn't the main plot, I always dig it if the awakening is not just a "two liner" and then "just roll with it" ... I loved to follow Hammers thought process in this matter.
But also following all of Hammers thoughts was like a field day in a candy store!
I loved his morbid fantasy his fascination but also is struggles to connect with ppl in general.
He was a lone wolf amongst wolves.

I thought this dark thing inside of me was something meant for me to experience on my own, but now I can share it with you.

Their relationship is something unique:
I loved how Hammer and Dex were able to connect with each other, they're both hadn't had it easy in finding a person who really clicks with them. Until they accidentally found each other.
Their love is the gory-morbid kind of murderhusband cute and I couldn't get enough of them!

So no wonder that D!ckhead was a binger for me.

I want to point out, that K.A. Merikan are one of my favorite author duo.
They write this tarantino-ish kind of dark(humor) and mix it perfectly up with hot, hot fun and swoony romance.
It's 100% my jam!
The characters are always multilayered, and surprise and entertain me all the time with their quirks, habits or morally ambiguous and sometimes slightly questionable world views.
And I love that there's no "predictability" in neither characters nor plot lines.
For me personally it's a page turner, a binger, a fun time to read&relax with and I can say that they always spark an extensive amount of joy!
My crazy clicks with this kind of crazy

Note: I got an ARC-ebook in exchange for an honest review and this is my unbiased opinion.
