Read as a Christmas in July book. it's not great, but not horrible. A short read (took me awhile because I didn't have time). it's cute, has some action, also a "clean romance". suitable really for teens and adults.

Cute as a button

This is a novella associated with [a:Deb Marlowe|980707|Deb Marlowe|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1366466715p2/980707.jpg]’s Half Moon House series. The series is linked by the owner of Half Moon House - a former courtesan who helps young women in dire straits. The owner appears briefly in this novella but having never read any other Half Moon House stories myself, I’m happy that this one stands alone quite nicely.

The story itself is quite a simple tale of finding love in the most unexpected places and at the most inconvenient times. Both Glenna and Alex are likeable characters and their romance is as sweet and adorable as could possibly be.

The romance novels that I tend to read normally have a little more passion and a lot more sex and sensuality. This has quite a different tone. It’s very chaste and, well, cute as a button. With that said, it’s still really easy to believe in the love of the main characters and wish them well on the way to their happy ending.

The Christmas theme works really well and the descriptions are very believable. I could really go for some gingerbread and snow right now!

Overall, this is a quick read (68 pages) and one that is sweet, cute and just an enjoyable romance all round.

This was a really sweet Christmas novella. It has a great theme to it and I was able to read it in one sitting.

Glenna has had to close her grandfather's bookshop after his death. She is headed to her great uncle the Duke of Danby's home for Christmas. She has been summoned and hopes she will be able to stay on at his home after the holidays.

Alexander Murray, Baron Ellesworth is in dire need of funds to keep his estate running. He is also headed to the Duke of Danby's home. He hopes to sell some books to him and have enough money to make it.

Each of them is following and making wishes on a bright star in the sky. They will soon cross paths due to a flooded bridge and meet up with a orphan boy. You will leave this story feeling some Christmas cheer and enjoying the ride.

This charmer of a novella is perfect for reading curled up with a warm glass of something spicy and a fire. With only 60+ pages to meet and fall in love, Glenna and Alex have to speak their minds quickly. There’s very little time for miscommunication or misunderstandings. Fun characters and setting.

It’s the Christmas Season and Glenna Barton has been summoned by the Duke of Danby, and none too soon. Her grandfather has dies and she has just finished closing his bookshop. Aided by Hestia Wright, she has clothes and a carriage to take her to the Duke’s home. Alexander Murray, Baron Ellsworth is also on his way to Danby Castle. He is hoping to sell off some valuable books to make enough money to keep his estate afloat.
Partway through the journey, both coaches are stopped at a bridge that has flooded and they have to wait for the water to recede before continuing their journey. One more carriage has been stranded. This one contains a small boy and his nursemaid. When they reach an inn the maid abandons the boy, Dowd, to go drinking with the carriage drivers. Glenna takes the boy under her wing and the two of them meet Alex. Dowd is afraid he will miss Christmas. He is going to his grandmother’s but he doesn’t know her name and won’t tell them his name. To cheer him up, Glenna gets the inn keeper to let them make gingerbread to share with all the patrons of the inn.
The next day, the bridge is passable but Alex’s driver and Dowd’s nursemaid have taken both carriages and blocked the bridge. Luckily, Alex is going to the same place as Glenna and since no one knows where Dowd is going they take him with them. Over the course of the journey, they spread Christmas Cheer at each inn they stop in for the night. Dowd is happy and Glenna and Alex are becoming closer.
Anyone who has read a book that contains the Duke of Danby knows that a happy ending is in the works and this is no exception. It’s always interesting to see how the Duke will get things arranged. Even when he seems to have nothing to do with the match – you always know he had a hand it in somehow.
It seems strange to sit in the heat of July reading a book about Christmas but this was an entertaining and quick read. IF you love Deb Marlowe or the Duke of Danby you’ll want to read this latest adventure.
