I loved how many different kinds of people are shown in this book. I love the complexity of Benji and Nick's characters. The depiction of religious trauma is amazing and it really shows how people are just a product of their environment, instead of having one-dimensional villains who are 'just bad people'.
The constant similarities shown between 'The Flood' and dysphoria were great, and just the trans representation and visibility over all were amazing.
I did feel like the ending was a bit rushed and i would've liked more resolution or a small piece of 'what happened after'.

It's a story of body dysmorphia & its conclusion (no spoilers) as a teen boy flees a religious cult that is set on wiping humanity from the planet & bringing on Revelations. Benji has been injected with a serum to becom  their weapon... and obviously it doesn't go as planned.

It takes heavy aim at Christianity & fits more under "dystopian" than "horror" in my mind.
Pretty sure I'll be adding this to my library so I can read it again.

I absolutely loved this. The body horror was so visceral (definitely make sure you check the content warnings before reading! LOTS of gross in here). All of the grotesque body horror moments that Benji experiences are SO very relatable as someome who is nonbinary and has experienced dysphoria. Really knocked it out of the park, for me. I loved the world building, and I love how flawed Benji is as a character, and he really feels and reads like a teenager. I also loved the tender moments of found family and friendship that help break up the scenes of intense violence and gore, it was a breath of fresh air and was comforting. Highly recommend.

I'm always a bit fearsome reading a book with apocalypse as its theme. I'm not a big fan of horror, but every now and then I want to read something different. This book was... something horrifyingly beautiful. I can't really put it to words. It's - I think - about coming into yourself, accepting yourself? Anyway, there's a lot. And I still need to proces. Not for the weak of heart.

This book made me feel so unbelievably seen.
I have a complicated relationship with (culty) religions, and growing up around them. So this book really was so meaningful to me - It made all of my fears about my queerness and the religion around me feel warranted and valid, real and raw.
Andrew Joseph White wrote the most beautiful, twisted, and genuine queer horror that spoke to every part of my experience. The fears, the confusion, the hiding, the rage, the feeling of finally finding a queer community to support you. It was all there.
Can't wait to consume everything else Andrew Joseph White has written.
(Check TW's before reading - they are very intense.)

Felt seen with the trans-ness of the main character. The story overall is such a reflection of today’s society and its flaws. Will be reading everything written by this author.
