I have not read the short stories that also belong to this edition.
When it comes to the novel, I must say that I found it truly interesting. I believe that the main character's role truly illustrates that rebellion that distinguishes the concept of the New Woman.
I am using this for my final dissertation and there are many things that lead me to ponder upon Feminism.
Perhaps what I enjoyed the least is the fact that the action goes so slowly at the beginning.
All in all, I have enjoyed it!

I would call this a predecessor to the Feminine Mystique by Betty Friedan. The ending was surpringly tragic.

I definitely need to re read this! I heard an audiobook rn, but this is the book that deserves to be read!

Re-read this for the first time since high school, and (as with Jane Eyre and Tess of the D'Urbervilles) it makes a whole lot more sense when reading it as a grownup.

For a book from 1900 I found this surprisingly easy to read. It was a great read and I loved Edna’s character development. I did find it a bit hard to follow because of the taboo subjects (sex and sexual relations mostly) which were mostly left unspoken but it was a very interesting book!
Spoiler
but honestly, the ending?? And her relationship with Arobin? I didn’t realise it was sexual until I watched the course hero video on it hahaha.begintohope's review against another edition

I had to read this for my lit class. I wouldn't have normally picked this book to read, but it was pretty reflective so im glad I did. I did not like Edna at all but I did like Mademoiselle Reis a lot more.

this story follows edna, a wife and mother of two, who falls in love with another man. it questions the morality of infidelity, societal expectations of women, and more. although the description says “although the theme of marital infidelity no longer shocks,” i have to disagree; this is a theme that still shocks me and i feel like most media containing the theme are from a husband’s viewpoint, not a wife’s. i can see why this book has long been studied and debated over.

I don't have much to say about this book other than I just love it and I love Edna. I'm definitely going to re-read this story.
