summary: this book follows Esther as she navigates her life. it's losing herself and working to regain identity. as she goes for psychiatry sessions, she eventually ends up in an asylum. insanity in herself leads her there.
being honest, most of the book flew over my head. like, i knew what was happening, like how she transiitoned from being in college to being in an asylum, and the differences between her acquaintances and relationships in the book.
being in first-person, it was an easy read. It's a good start for classics since it's easy to comprehend.

It’s very difficult to give a review that does justice to the writing, the way you feel like you accompany her as she descends into depression. Sometimes you feel like she hits you too often with very heavy and haunting lines, and you have to stop and think about everything. She was brilliant. What a waste.
