This was good, but SO frustrating. I so many times wanted to yell at Leo. I know it was a plot device, but literally just asking for help sometimes would fix so many of our (and Leo's) problems, and at times it just got so annoying to see her struggle when the situation could be easily avoided.

Magic system is cute, characters are cute, idea is cute, just wanted to punch the 11 year old and that makes me feel so mean.

Delightfully magical and fun, A Dash of Trouble is a sweet story of friendship, family, growing up and finding your place in the world. This was a joy to read and a series I'd both happily continue and recommend.

I received a copy of this galley through Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

This was a cute story about Leo, who has a problem with snooping. When she is left out of the family bakery's preparations for Dia de los Muertos, Leo goes undercover and secretly finds out about the magic in her family. It turns out all of the women in Leo's family are brujas and she has magic herself. In effort to not be further left out, Leo tries her own hand at magic and it blows up in her face. Leo just may have to come clean and seek her mom and sister's help.

I thought this was a cute story about family. I enjoyed the personality of the characters. I thought the magic was funny and unique. I enjoyed the integration of the Spanish language and story related recipes.

Love, Sugar, and a little Magic are all you need to make the perfect spell. I thoroughly enjoyed this book for many reasons. Coming into this book right after re-reading Labyrinth Lost was one of the best ideas that I have had in a while. Reading about the world where you can cook up some magic was such a brilliant idea. When I first heard of this book I thought there would be a lot of similarities with the "Just Add Magic" series that is currently on Amazon Prime, but I was completely blown away by the way that the author described the world and the different effects that magic can have when you are dealing with a recipe. I honestly could relate to the main character Leo so well because just like her I am the youngest sibling and have had times where my siblings would do something that I was not allowed to do yet and trying it out anyway even though I was probably too young to still do it. I loved this book! If you are looking for a magical adventure that centers around food and family you have come to the right place!!

“Marilla, are you just drowning your troubles and emotions in middle grade books?” Yes, absolutely, without regret, I’ve read three in the past two days and I have no plans to stop anytime soon.

This was just as cute as I went in hoping! I have a soft spot for baking magic and it always makes me happy. (I’ve certainly read enough of them, considering my picky-reader younger sister went through a phase where she’d only read baking magic books, so naturally I read them all too.)

I love Leo’s strong relationship to all of her family and each of her sisters, as well as how each sister had a unique personality. I also loved Leo’s friendship with Caroline (though not quite so much as her relationship with her family).

There was literally nothing I disliked about this book. I loved everything from the Spanish to the baking magic to Leo’s voice to the pacing. I feel middle grade always has such good pacing and the middle grade I’ve been reading recently has brought back my active admiration for middle grade authors.

(I also saved all the recipes at the back, just in case…)

Cannot wait to read the next one!

A very cute middle grade story about a young girl discovering her magic. I recommend having something to eat nearby while you read because there is so much delicious food talk!

A beautifully unique story, about kitchen witches! This story is about maturing faster than expected, and I would suggest it to anyone who knows the feeling of being held back by loved ones "for your own good"
