I was pretty disappointed with this book, as most of the other reviews have stated. I was soooooo looking forward to it coming out because I absolutely loved the previous two, that I though Rebecca Donovan could do no wrong. Unfortunately, this book did not live up to those expectations. As moving and passionate as the other two books were, this book really fell flat. It was more of the usual college romance, we keep seeing in the NA genre, without the passionate love and turmoil that made the others great.

Now don't get me wrong, I still loved Emma and Evan together and I'm glad that finally happens. But you really only see them happy at the end of the book with a lot of filler in between. Still glad I read it, because of course I had to see through to the end, that's how much I loved the other two.

Some nice surprises were the supporting characters. I liked Emma's new friends and Cole was a real cutie. Spinoff anyone????

A nice end to a great series. At first I hated Emma, the person she had after she had left Jared. In a way i get her twisted logic and why she left, but i still don't like who she becomes. It took a while for me to get into this because of that, but that all changed when Jared came back into the story and we started to here some of the narrative from his point of view.

I wasn't as enamored with this book as much as i had been with the first two but it was a good story and i was sad the series has come to an end.

There are no words that will accurately describe this book, I was literally "Out of Breath" for most of it. Rebecca Donovan is AMAZING and if you liked the other two books in this series, you will love this one even more!! I have one of the worst book hangovers....ever!! Yes, I got this on my Ipad at 9:00 and stayed up most of the night to read it. I could NOT stop! There are no down moments or boring parts to this book!

I don't want to be spoilerish....so you will just have to read it for yourself. I will say that this is one of my all time favorite trilogies! Evan is the kind of guy all girls want to love them! Emma, well she's Emma. ;-)

Fav Quotes:
"Living in the mistakes of your past isn't going to do anything but destroy your future."

"Every breath I breathe is because of you. Even when you weren't there to save me, you were my reason to breath. And for that I will always love you. Always."

After the last book, Emma’s moved away to college to start a new life. She falls for a new dude named Cole but he can’t handle everything that comes with being with her.
But then Evan comes back in her life and they start to fall in love with each all over again. They are given a second chance.
There were some moments where I felt the tension and angst but mostly I wasn’t moved.

After finishing the series, I found that the first book was my favourite. Something about friends to lovers and first love that gets me every time.

Q:
Watching her peaceful face, something roused inside me, and I knew I was in trouble.
I couldn't help but look for her. No matter who I was talking to, or where I was, I'd keep glancing around the room, or the deck, or the patio, seeking her out.

**Reread 2024**

I have trouble putting into words how much impact this book has on me.

The first two books had Emma suffering abuse from two different villains and this last book is about how she's handling everything that happened and the choices she made. Reading about a self-destructive heroine is not easy but at the same time I like it because it makes the character feel real to me - she's just human with human emotions and flaws.

I loved how Evan loves Emma. His is the steadfast kind of love and I'm glad that he stayed strong despite the challenge of competing with her demons.

I wish that there was another book where their story continued which focuses more on how they build their relationship more, now that they're finally back together. I'd love to see them act more as a couple and handle more normal relationship challenges. But this happy for now ending is okay, too.

Will I reread in the future? Maybe, maybe not. I think it requires a certain amount of mental fortitude to actually subject yourself to being in the mind of an abuse/trauma victim.

Do I recommend? Absolutely, but with caution.

Great Read!

If you've read the first two books in the series, you must read the final book. I loved every part, every word written! Love and forgiveness will always find a way!

It's been a few days since I finished, but I'll try to give a good review. Emma left Evan behind to attend Stanford without any explanation as to why she was leaving. Out of Breath is two years later, and she is no longer the same girl. Sarah is still her best friend, but while she is studying abroad she has back up. Emma's new roommates all love her, and are just as protective as Sarah. Two years without Evan has taken it's toll, and she knows she will never be the same. Her only goal is to finish school, and try to move on.

***Spoilers***
Emma dates Cole for a little while, but she makes it clear that they are not together, and won't be. He is very sweet, and is determined to win her over. When her mother kills herself, she is forced to go back to a place she never wanted to return to. Evan shows up at the funeral, and finds Emma a shell of her former self. Not only is she drowning her sorrows in alcohol, but she isn't the same. Evan & Sarah find Emma passed out in the closet at the funeral home, drunk. At first she doesn't want to have anything to do with him, then he decides he is going back on the same plane. Turns out that his friends live right down the road from Cole's beach house, and Evan asks for two weeks and answers to his questions as closure. The more time they spend together, the more obvious it is that neither of them are over the other. Emma has so many issues, that she doesn't feel worthy of him. Of course it's inevitable that they get back together.
