Weird and abrupt ending to what was otherwise a fairly decent read.

This was not the book for me. Not only did I not care about Perry or Dayna but the books layout bugged me. The characters were all awful and even Jim who was the most likable was meh. Trigger warnings for rape as well as some crappy representation of the disabled.

A quick, entertaining read, capturing everyday quiet sadness for each of the characters. But the ending came too fast and without much resolution.

This book is a damn thrill. The way Hunter paces both plot and character revelations is downright brilliant here -- she follows a spiral, slow at first and increasingly dizzying-fast. You don't know anything about a character and then all of a sudden you know everything and, God, are those things terrible enough to make you sick. Her sensory descriptions, particularly those of smell, pull you right in to revolt you. The ending is fireworks: flash-bang quick and explosive; when you close the cover, the dust hasn't even begun to settle.

Not sure what to say about this book, it was depressing, the characters were all depressing, even the story was depressing.

It is based around 2 friends Perry & "Baby Girl" and their tiny little life stealing cars and joy riding.

Both Perry and Baby Girl start getting messages from "Jamie" and their friendship is put to the test.

Lindsay Hunter’s novel Ugly Girls is unrelenting and unsparring and strangely compelling. Read more.

Really well-written. For a book that bounces between character perspectives, they were all completely different and fleshed out and very human. A couple phrases seemed repeated too many times to describe the same thing (stale beer is yeasty. I get it.)

This book felt unlike anything I've ever read before. It was about people you wouldn't normally read about, or at least I've never come across a book about young white teen girl thugs. Hunter made the characters each ugly in their own way, on the inside, or metaphorically, or in one case very straightforwardly. One of the best metaphors (if it's that) I've ever read for self-loathing is Hunter's description of smell.

As this one is about teens, I think it's pretty safe to say this one could easily appeal to teenagers. It would hopefully serve as more of a cautionary tale. Hunter's writing does a good job explaining the reasoning (or lack thereof) behind acting out and living dangerously for no reason.
