Found the story hard to follow. Really wanted to like it, but didn't.

I thought I would like this book more that I did, to be honest. I still appreciated it, especially the last third where all the story finally come together, although it seems to me that this could have been a more "united" story, instead of several separate ones. I found it difficult to distinguish all the women (but maybe that's my problem) and had to go back and forth to remind myself who was who. Anyway, the story is quite touching and the difficult relationship between mothers and daughters is well depicted.

It took a little while for the stories to start interconnecting and then it got very good. About moms and daughters with chinese heritage.

I watched The Joy Luck Club long ago, and it stayed with me till these days.

This year, I came across the book, and it was the sign.

✨️If you enjoy Mother-Daughter relationships, cultural differences, and family bonds, this book is for you.

✨️The book follows 4 daughters and 4 mothers; Chinese-born mothers who are trying to turn their children into their "best-selves" and American-born daughters who believe they are so different from their mothers.

✨️The aspect I enjoyed the most was the idea that - Regardless of cultural and generational isolation, the bond between mother and daughter can not be broken

At first I found all the women's stories beautiful in their own right, but the more I read and the more entwined they all became.. it left me craving more. By the end, I was invested and was so pleased with the ending. I would most certainly recommend =)
