Thin on plot (like, ice on a hot day thin) and heavy on the romance. Not really my thing hense the 2 stars. Are we suppose to like the werewolf? I'm not sure why.

4.5/5 stars!/

I really loved this! At first, I wasn't really expecting much from just the summary alone. I found it interesting enough to buy it. Finally got around to reading it earlier today, and man I couldn't put it down! Historical novels are generally tough for me to enjoy, but this one was great! Loved the inclusion of the supernatural, and of course preternatural, in this book. I found the pacing to be perfect, albeit a bit slow in some moments.

Loved the building romance in here too! It mixed in perfectly with the mystery surrounding the disappearances of supernaturals. I found both plot lines to be done really well! I found myself invested in both, though I will admit the romance was my fave. I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series! Definitely recommend checking this one out!

A little too steamy for my taste, but loved the cheeky and humorous writing. Looking forward to checking out her YA series.

Fun first book that starts off a bit slow and uneven. Decent worldbuilding and the Victorian era make for a new kind of urban fantasy. Interested to finish the series

The Parasol Protectorate is a new to me Steampunk/Paranormal series that introduces one of the funniest characters I’ve read in a long time: The Soulless Alexis Tarabotti.

Alexis is thus designated because she is essentially without a soul and her ability to negate the powers of the supernatural make her an extremely rare creature indeed. If that isn’t bad enough she is also a spinster (although well off) and has an unfortunately large nose thanks to her deceased Italian father (she mentions this repeatedly). Despite these unavoidable setbacks Alexis is determined not to let any of them bother her; speaking her mind, decidedly not hiding her intelligence and wit and lovable (to me) sense of humor.

Things get sticky however when Alexis is inexplicably attacked by a vampire and the crime is investigated by Alpha werewolf and Head of the Bureau of Unnatural Registry, Lord Conall Maccon. While they race to solve the mystery of unaffiliated and disappearing vampires their courtship blossoms and the forthright Lord Maccon (he is an alpha werewolf after all!) realizes that Alexis is quite the right match for him. As he pursues her and she retreats, they draw close to the real culprit behind the strange goings on and get thrown together (and drawn apart) in confrontations both dangerous and hysterical!

A great, fun read, I will seeing more of Alexis Tarbotti and her deadly parasol!

Dandy vampires, Victorian morals, Hilarious and intelligent main character, and amorous werewolves. What's not to love? Will definitely be continuing on with this series. Loved it.

Be warned: Although the sex scenes were tame by my standards they did fall on the more risque' side of things. It was just my cup of tea but I'm sure there are others that would not feel the same.

Also, the main character is consistently described as very curvy yet the woman on the front cover is less so. Blah!
