  • This was so disappointing.
  • Ultimately there wasn't anything that drew me into the book which was frustrating because the amount of times I put this on hold, delayed the hold, then replaced the hold trying to read this book only to spend the majority of this book ready for it to  be over was just exceptionally disappointing.
  • I like Arjun for the most part and I honestly felt really bad for how both his mom and Madhuri treated him. He was very sweet and conscientious.
  • Madhuri ultimately felt really annoying, fickle, and inconsiderate. The way that she kept jerking around Arjun and never truly fully thinking through anything it seem
  • Also the plot throughout this book just didn't make sense. There were so many moments were it felt like I was missing something or that I skipped pages, but I just didn't. There times were it seemed like they were going to seriously be together outside an expiration date but then nope the expiration date is back and then again they'd have a good moment and it'd be real again and the whoops nope back to being an experiment. And ultimately I just couldn't track and it wasn't well done.
  • The aspect of fate was interesting but with the muddled plot points it just didn't get communicated well.

I don't know how or why but this has been in my TBR even before it was released but reading it was. So disappointing and I tried until 25% and I just can't anymore. These ppl are not real, the sense of where we are and what these character look like is missing so I'm disoriented + the writing is so stilted, the dialogues are awkward and unreal and I don't rly like how Madhuri treats Arjun like a puppy whose "loyalty" she loves like. God. Give me a break. No buildup to why Arjun loves her so much either. The MCs are rly boxed and stereotypical (Arjun, the boy-next-door; Madhuri, the unlikable MC at the start of a 2000s movie but also the Indian-American girl who, you guessed it right!, hates everything Indian) and the why of their fake dating makes no goddamn sense. It's like this girl is fighting so hard to not let fate and destiny ride her life is not for herself but for the author's and the plot's sake lolllllll

“there is no madhuri iyer without arjun mehta.”
he smiled at her, slowly and then all at once. “and there is no arjun mehta without you.”

this felt like watching a bollywood romcom, my favourite genre. madhuri, i don't know how to explain but i feel so seen due to you. and arjun, he's the boyfriend we all need.

overachiever gf x supportive bf is my favourite trope from now on

however, i really really disliked the third act breakup. i don't know if it's just me, but WHAT was the need to break up with arjun? he's literally the book boyfriend.

hate to be honest though, all the character development was focused on madhuri and none on arjun

Have you ever looked at your life and gone wow, the women in my life are really fucking me over.
That's what this book is about, whether that woman is yourself, your mom or your best friend.
A comfort story about choosing yourself in the healthy sense and not in a fuck off type of way.
Not a book I would typically choose for myself but one that I appreciated.
