I feel like most of the plot kind of fell apart I should say, there was none for a good 75% of the book) because this book takes place completely outside of Maple Hills and the squad. I think that companionship and group of friends is why I really liked the first book so much more than this one. Russ and Aurora are cute together and have a lot of adulting hurdles to navigate, which makes this book feel at the same time very immature as well as frustrating because you're watching young characters evolve through tough topics. I wish the spice to plot ratio was a little bit better, but the spice was 👀🌶🌶 though a little laughable when these characters are barely 21. Overall, not bad. Hoping that the next book will make take me right back to my love for Maple Hills!

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Russ and Aurora don’t expect to see one another again after a one-night-stand…but then end up counselors at the same summer camp a day later.

I really enjoyed ICEBREAKER but procrastinated reading this one for ages for whatever reason, and I’m so glad I finally got to it! Aurora and Russ’s relationship was SO SWEET and healing, and I loved to watch it unfold. They are truly a perfect match for one another, and I absolutely adored the found family vibes and the extreme closure of the epilogue.

There were a few moments here where the book felt a bit long, but it allowed the relationship to unfold in a really realistic way, which I did appreciate. And a bonus—no third act breakup!!!!! The emotional maturity Russ and Aurora both displayed towards the end of the book was fantastic and it was great to see that much character growth!

Highly recommend, and can’t wait for DAYDREAM!

I liked this book a lot more than the previous book, Icebreaker. I found the characters more relatable and the author did a great job of weaving in both main characters’ backstories. Lots of childhood trauma that was kind of miraculously solved at about 80-85% of the book, which was feel good and happy, but felt unbearably unrealistic at times. The tension and spice was yummy and not over the top. Definitely a book with spice and not a spicy book. Looking forward to book 3 coming out next month!
