Cute but nothing special. Low angst and I was really looking forward to book two so I read this to get some background first haha

The story follows Grady, the captain of the Easton University baseball team, and Kellen, coach's son and batboy (a term that I find super weird).
The coach is very strict about certain rules, and one of them is not playing favourites. So his son isn't allowed to be close to any of the players. Kellen tries to abide by the rules. But Grady, who has a crush on Kellen, is always so nice to him and tries to include him in everything that Kellen can't help wanting to be with him.
And I can't tell you how much I fucking love that this romance started because Grady is just too nice a guy to resist. We need more people like that in books.
And the romance itself is fucking adorable. There's some angst there as well because of the whole "not allowed" thing. But between Kellen and Grady, it's just cuteness all around. Like, they sit at the back of the tour bus, share a pair of earphones, and quietly listen to music together. I can't even...
Additionally, there's a fair amount of baseball talk in both books. And knowing absolutely nothing about baseball beyond hit-ball-with-bat, I can tell you that if you're in the same boat, you shouldn't worry because the story still makes complete sense.
Finally, I do have one criticism, and it goes from both books, which is that the beginnings are slightly rough. The author wants to paint a clear picture of the protagonists, their positions in the team and college, and their families. But she goes about it in an info-dumpy way, and it can be a little tedious to read.
Other than that, I have no complaints about the first book.

Review:
This book is sweet and simple, predictable but fun.
I think it can be hard for a sports romance novel to strike the right balance with sports content, and this one felt like there was too little baseball content. It easily could have been any other sport, or even some other club. If a book is going to be a sports romance, the sport should be at least somewhat integral to the story.

Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 3.5: Almost great, but falling short somehow. But more than just tipping the scale into good territory.
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 4: Brown Girl Spicy (Multiple descriptive and detailed open door scenes; smut is very prominent but it does not overtake plot)
