I enjoyed this book. It had my anxiety high of course and I cried a lot but I didn’t like how predictable it was and how naive I felt she was in this book.

We catch up with Penny and James on her graduation day. She is trying to get information out of James but he isn’t giving it up. She says she knows how to get him to talk as she traces his happy trail down to the waist line of his pants. But then “surprise” James has thrown a surprise graduation party for Penny and she is mortified as people heard what she said, including her parents!

Penny and James are set to be married now that she has graduated, but Penny can’t stop thinking that James is hiding things from her, can a relationship work when there are so many secrets?

To make things more difficult James’ parents don’t want to meet Penny, they want James to get back with his ex-wife Isabella. But James doesn’t want that.

Penny is trying to get an internship in marketing and James has offered her one at his new company “Hunter Technology” but she doesn’t want people to think that she only got the job because who she is with. She wants to get a job on her own merit, but all the applications she sent out, no one is coming back to her? Has James done something to stop her from working elsewhere?

Melissa has moved to NYC and is staying with Tyler, but at the surprise party they were acting weird around each other. People are suspecting that Tyler and Melissa are sleeping together, but surely they would tell Penny if they were, Penny is meant to be their best friend. Especially as Penny spends every Friday night with Tyler. Thankfully James has gotten over Tyler and Penny sleeping together and has accepted Tyler as a friend.

James and Penny have decided that they don’t want to have bachelor and bachelorette parties. But their friends have other ideas. But do Penny and James trust each other?

With Isabella living in New York isn’t it only a matter of time before she starts poking her nose into Penny and James’ business again?

Will James and Penny get to the alter or will they fall apart?

This book irritated me. Penny needs a lesson in self love. Why does she constantly put her own needs aside and allow ‘the love of her life’ to treat her like a door mat?
It was mildly endearing in the first book, she was young and it was her first real relationship. It was kind of cute. Mildly frustrating in the second book but she was still finding herself on top of a lot of very stressful stuff going on, but this book just took it to a new level.
2.5 yrs together and she still can’t just say no? Can’t tell him to stop making decisions about her future without consulting her? Can’t set boundaries, especially when James uses sex to get his way? Still behaving like a whiney child who is incapable of doing anything alone?
Urgh, if she was my friend I would have knocked some sense into her by now! Pretty sure James would be sick of her too.
I do love the story and I will continue with the series because I do feel attached to most of the characters, but if she doesn’t find her inner bad bitch soon, I’m out.

This was a struggle to read and even a harder struggle to finish. I disliked Penny's character as she seems immature and led around by childish notions. I detest James even more because of his extremely manipulative behaviour. Almost everything in these pages screamed a red flag. I've never struggled so much with a book. I preferred the side characters more.

*Mentally tallying how many more hours of this drama I can read before my mood is fully compromised....*

*Yeah, that's what I thought*

What I liked about this book:
1. Tyler is still fantastic. Just when I think this guy can't get any more sweet, he shows up proving me wrong again. Like, seriously, that wedding dress situation? How can she clearly not see Tyler is the man for her?!?!?!?

2. Talking about a man who shows up when it counts, Rob totally won me over in this book. He is totally laidback, loyal, and hilarious (once you get to know him). I would read a spinoff of his just so I could swoon over him being all sweet and treating a woman right.
Swoon

3. As much as I didn't really like this book (see below for specifics), I will still continue to torture myself until the series is over. Is that a plus?
EhMaybe?

What I didn't like about this book:
1. I'm very confused how I could really like the first two books in this series and then really not enjoy this third book. This book, the third in The Hunted series, takes place 2.5 years after the end of book 2, [b:Addiction|55509886|Addiction (The Hunted, #2)|Ivy Smoak|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1601399517l/55509886._SX50_.jpg|47772001]. With such a time jump and a firm commitment in place, I was hoping we would get to see the mature side of this couple's relationship. How silly of me to think that was in the cards for this series that is hellbent on being a train wreck. Shouldn't this couple be a little more in sync by now? It's been like THREE YEARS PEOPLE!!!!

2. Unlike the first two books in this series, this book was PAINFUL to finish. It kept dragging, which was one of the things I very much liked about the first two books NOT doing. I literally wanted to DNF this book at least 10 times from all the unnecessary situations. It was twice as long as it needed to be.
EhMaybe?

3. Ok, characters....

Melissa - I thought we talked about this in my review of book 1? What is wrong with you and why are you a terrible friend? You are even more immature than Penny, and that's saying something.

Austin - Well, it couldn't be a book in The Hunted series without your continuous flare up, right?
Herpes

Isabella - What is the matter with you? Are you just scorn? Are you being paid to be awful? I hear your villainy gets worse in the fourth book, so....here we go?
Herpes

Penny - I keep trying to make excuses for you because you are young and naïve, but I just can't help you at this point. YOU NEED TO LEARN TO COMMUNICATE!!!!!! If you had just talked to him about all the items you were getting in the mail, the book could have been half the length.

James - YOU are old enough that you should know how to communicate already. You need to get over yourself and your insecurities and stop trying to control everything and everyone. Like really, blacklisting her into working for you, keeping things from her, allowing your shady ex to ruin your relationship. These are all things that could have been handled with conversations instead of your dumb actions.

Bottomline
Herpes

2.5 Stars. Let's hope the next one is better?

Here are my previous reviews for the first two books in The Hunted Series
Book 1 - Temptation
Book 2 - Addiction
