This book gave me a lot to think about and, as I read it while actually in Texas, I was able to actively see and understand different aspects of the state in a new light. This one is great for anyone who wants a short but thorough exploration of the holiday of Juneteenth. Happy Reading :)

This was an outstanding book on race.
One of the best books in this genre that I have read.

Extremely important and pertinent book.

I highly recommend this. Some really eye-opening bits in the book.

In my quest to continue to learn the truth about American history, I was immediately drawn to On Juneteenth when it was offered to me by Libro.fm as an early release to listen to and review. While I didn’t end up listening to it in advance of publication date, I did end up listening to it on Juneteenth.

This short book is a mix of personal memoir about what Juneteenth has meant to the author growing up in Texas - where Juneteenth originated, and history surrounding the origins of the holiday, which is finally a nationally recognized holiday.

Thank you to Libro.fm and Recorded Books for an ALC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

A short read that gives personal insights into Texas’s history, especially the history of race and racism in Texas.

A very solid, brief history of race and significant historical events in Texas, many of which are told through a lens slightly different that what is taught in schools.

I really liked this book, but the title “On Juneteenth” is a bit misleading. Most of the book deals in other ancillary topics and events, but it is still great nonetheless!
