It’s not a Beauty and the Beast retelling. It’s part of a retelling. It’s one of those books that just stops in the middle of the plot to make you buy another book.

I really loved this weird story! Finley is such a fun lead with her sass, intelligence, and compassion. I can not wait to continue this series!!

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good dark romance now and again. This one just didn’t hit right for me. It was sort of a spin on Beauty and the Beast - he acts like a beast and she’s a beautiful, strong woman who has the chance to save him and their kingdom.

There was a lot of debauchery that felt like it was more for shock value than character building or reader enjoyment. The ending leaves the story wide open for the next book to pick-up, but I don’t feel compelled to do so.

I so badly wanted to like this one… Not only because the cover is beautiful, but because the blurb makes this story out to be a beautiful, albeit dark, retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Instead, what you’ll get is a story about a gullible girl who, despite taking care of essentially her entire village for the past 9 years, talks to herself and acts as annoying as a young child. The inner dialogue is meant to come off as cute, I’m assuming, but really it’s distracting and annoying. I’m aLeo left feeling absolutely nothing about Nyfain, who is supposed to be the love interest and prince. His development was essentially non-existent, and I genuinely could not believe it took Finley the entire book to come to the realization that he was the prince..like girl.. I have no words.

WTF?! That’s basically what I kept repeating throughout this book. This book is CRAZY! That being said I can see how some people may enjoy it for the camp, it’s just not for me. Mainly bc I feel the writer just can’t decide what the book is supposed to be, modern, medieval, and the dialogue!!! Ouch! He literally says “I don’t need to say boo” That was it for me, I’m out.

I really struggled with the writing in this book. Some of the choices the author made were very distracting, like the FMC talking to herself, suddenly, in 3rd person like a sports announcer. Very bizarre. The spicy scenes ARE very spicy and it IS clearly inspired by Beauty and the Beast.
