It turns out, quite boring to read about someone's perfectly idyllic childhood. Just completely glosses over any hardships the family might have struggled with. Not that Jean Kennedy needs to put that out there, but makes for a book without momentum or engagement.

There's a sucker born every minute, and when it comes to the Kennedy family, that sucker is me. This isn't a bad book, it wafts over details of a much more interesting life than the author would have you believe. It's the sort of book a grandmother would write for her grandchildren: sunshine, flowers, and childhood perfection. I can't exactly fault it for that, and I wasn't really looking for salacious details, but a more completely picture would have been much more interesting.

Whilst obviously not a very objective take on the Kennedy siblings, it drips with love and adoration for each of her siblings and her parents, making it clear to the reader how each sibling ended up how they did, doing what they did, and why they did it. It's wonderful.

This book made an ideal Christmas read.

I did not expect it to be a warts-and-all deep psychological study of the Kennedy siblings, and I got what I assumed it would be - fond reminiscing of the last remaining member of the Kennedy family as it was then, memories viewed w/ rose-coloured glasses on.

It's a cute book, it gave me a few interesting/funny stories I didn't know. (Being interested in RFK and having read RFK-oriented books, but not being a Kennedy scholar even remotely.) And I appreciated the pictures. Especially little Bobby's 9 year old scrawl of a handwriting made my week at least.

A quick, cute read for when you're in the mood for a vibe from another time and place.

A light, fun glimpse into the lives of the Kennedy children when they were young. I enjoyed reading what stood out to Jean from her childhood.

Such a bittersweet book. A look back at a simpler time in America and at a family that would impact our history in such a profound way, but bittersweet because we know how these stories end. This memoir written by Jean Kennedy Smith focuses on the earliest years of one of America's first families. She speaks fondly of brothers and sisters who would have a major impact politically and in other fields as well. There are fond memories of their parents and grandparents as well, people who also shaped our country's history by the way they raised this large family. "What would you do if you were president?"... a dinner table game that would affect us all.
