This book is gripping, it’s a dark thriller that grabs you. Loved how it brings forward cultural and historical aspects of the South and how this shapes the characters. I love a complicated and well fledged out main character and this provided that. It is beautifully written with some words that just really put you in the story. It’s not too predictable. My only critique is that I feel like there are some characters we got too many unnecessary details about only to end uo with a rushed ending in which we are missing a deeper dive into the motives and connection of the school shooter to the serial killer. Hints are made throughout the book about how they became connected but this isn’t really explained in the end.

There is no way that doesn’t become a feature film or high budget TV series. All the hallmarks of one of the great noir novels.

Boring AF. I almost got into a reading slump forcing myself to finish this book

Good writing and a compelling mystery in the first half of the book but it gives way to weak character development, cliche tropes, and a lazy reveal. Feels more like a tv script than a novel. An entertaining read though.

S.A. Cosby is one of my favorite writers and this book is a testament to his place in contemporary lit. - it is a hard story to hear, thematically, but narrator Adam Lazarre-White brings the characters to life brilliantly. I did have to put this one down a few times and get some space from the story, imagery can be quite intense. I was satisfied with the story as a whole and enjoyed the ride, if bumpy.

Southern Noir is the genre I didn’t know I was missing until I was introduced to this author.

CW: violence, particularly violence perpetrated against children, quasi-religious and religious fervor (Christian based), descriptions of wounds and death, racism.

All the Sinners Bleed is a serial killer mystery/thriller about Titus, the first Black sheriff in a rural county in the South, as he struggles to track down a serial killer targeting Black children in the area, while also dealing with white supremacist vitriol and distrust of police in the community.

There are so many layers within this novel, and it felt like so much more than just a serial killer mystery. Titus’s inner narrative throughout the story gives attention to the realities of small-town America. There were so many poignant lines that made me stop and put down the book so I could take a second before moving on.

I loved that Titus was heroic, but flawed, and his family and deputies provided fascinating side characters. The plot was perfectly paced, with intense action happening between slower parts of the investigation.

Trigger Warnings:
torture, violence, murder, racism, hate crimes

I will be recommending this one to everyone interested in dark thriller/mystery novels. A fantastic read, and I cannot wait to read more from S. A. Cosby.
