Though not as good as Midnight Rainbow, this book too is a swell read and a testament to Linda Howard's ability to create the best and yummiest alpha heroes!

Audiobook. The dog is okay. A simple shore life interrupted by a washed up agent. The vet does surgery. Cavalry riding in. Tampons as distraction.

I would have liked this book a bit more if it wasn't for the insta-love/lust, that I thought was over-the-top. The heroine, Rachel, falls in love with the injured Kell Sabin, a guy she pulled out of the ocean, before he was even conscious. So, yeah, that called for an eye roll or two. Also, how "convenient" that although he was unconscious for 2-3 days, his bodily functions were completely non-existent; I guess sexy guys don't do that ;-)
Other than that, it was kind of Ok.

Recommended: To those who enjoy Linda Howard books and don't mind "insta-love" ridiculousness

I'm such a sucker for Linda Howard's books, her ultra-alpha-Male hero, and the simple bad guy suspense plots (not overdone) when they're done well. And this is one of those times. This book is pretty old school, but it's still a relevant, really enjoyable read.

Rachel is strong, sensible, drama-free, loving, and admirable.

Kell is lethal, growl-ly, yummy, smart, and cynical about the prospect of ever being able to be close to anyone (the main relationship problem).

The plot stretches the bounds of belief multiple times, but not past my breaking point.

Diamond Bay

When an injured and barely conscious man washes up on her isolated beach, Rachel Jones makes a split-second decision to keep his presence secret while he recuperates. CIA operative Kell Sabin is grateful yet wary of the beautiful stranger who saved his life. Neither Rachel nor Kell can deny the attraction that sizzles between them, but can their love survive the danger that stalks them?

The basic premise requires a certain degree of suspension of disbelief mainly due to the heroine's questionable decision-making processes at the beginning of the book. Nevertheless, the romance is engaging and the suspense plot ratchets up the tension.

The primary focus of the book is Rachel and Kell's growing physical and emotional intimacy. They have wonderful chemistry and their traumatic backstories not only contribute to their individual characterization, but make their relationship all the sweeter.

The villains are rather cookie-cutter, but there are some intense moments and the final showdown is satisfying.

All in all, another entertaining golden oldie from Linda Howard.
