I have no words... this book is amazing. I've always enjoyed historical fiction but combined with the story of the Passion... [a:Louis de Wohl|78034|Louis de Wohl|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1237054170p2/78034.jpg] does an incredible job of accurately portraying the characters' emotions. When I read the dialogue, I can truly feel and sympathize with the character's angst, joy, sorrow, etc.

Cut and dry, one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Another DNF that I respect. Just wasn’t for me.

I liked this story way more than I expected to. This book is Max's summer reading for (Catholic) school, and I pre-read it just to share the experience with him and to help him with some of the vocabulary and historical context (homeschooling habits die hard!).

There was one part that seemed utterly unrealistic to me - the 15-year-old Jewish girl that was all but raped by the Roman centurion and consequently falls in love with him. Puh-leeze. But it's an older book and the author is obviously male, and I will cut him some slack because the story was otherwise well done.

The characterization of the various side-characters in the story of Crucifixion was compelling and their motivations sounded plausible. I'd say de Wohl drew the contemporary (political) situation rather well.
The author kind of lost me when it came to
Spoiler the female love interest (too docile, too meek, too good for this world) and the adultery shoehorned into the narrative for the sake of wrapping the biblical events in all too closely.
