Okay first, I love the cover. I also loved this story. I loved Pie. Being lonely can feel like a curse and this book did such an amazing job with it. Seeing Pie find where she belonged and her found family had me wanting to cry. Deff a favorite.

the protagonist is most-of-the-way invisible, and she and her mother live this very liminal life, until one day her mother disappears altogether and she has to learn how to navigate the world on her own. I enjoyed this as a story but the speculative elements didn't altogether work for me -- it neither felt fully explained/integrated into the story, nor like the author had intended it to be more magic realismy, but rather was halfway in between those two. so just overall didn't quite click for me.

3 stars. The plot of this is so cool and unique but the execution wasn’t the best. You can definitely tell that this is a debut novel because of the writing. The characters were pretty one dimensional and forgettable but the plot was entertaining and I can say that I was never really bored while reading this. I’m interested to see what this author does next because the book had a lot of potential and I have my fingers crossed that the next book by Moore will be better.

This whole concept of invisibility was super well thought out, so props to the author for thinking of pretty much everything. I especially enjoyed the unsettling nature of the circumstances. It’s not a very scary book, but reading about interactions where others were scared by something that would certainly be terrifying in real life was actually unnerving in a way I wasn’t expecting. I also appreciated that the various relationships and the idea of finding community were developed and explored in a satisfying way. The pacing felt a little weird because there’s really no structure, just one straight-through train of action, but at least I was never bored.
