I love Hollywood romances and this one in particular because I found that the characters were so relatable to real life. Instead of having a super famous Hollywood actor, Griffin is making his way up, at the moment starring as a doctor in a TV series. Alice is a post-graduate student, working to finishing her thesis for a doctoral degree in Social Studies. She’s supplementing her scholarship working as an extra in the same series as Griffin. Due to the pecking order in the set, the “extras” don’t mix with the talent, but Griffin has a precious little dog, Taco, and Alice loves the little guy.

When Griffin is called away to film a movie, he decides to leave Taco home and hires Alice to doggy sit in his house. This was fantastic because Alice had just been ousted from her apartment so her roommate could move his boyfriend in.

Griffin was a ladies man but he was getting tired of the scene. He was looking forward to finding someone who would treat him as a normal person. When Alice moves into his house, he finds that instead of clinging, she kept a distance. She was friendly but distant. Naturally he was intrigued but he went away to film his movie. This was a great move by the author because it allowed the characters to be friends and get closer slowly. Their push and pull and the awkwardness of their meetings was very cute.

I liked that both characters had issues to overcome that seemed like real life. Griffin was still subjected to his agent’s instructions, which rested mostly on fake romances and manipulating the public’s perception of the actor. Alice had problems pursuing the completion of her dissertation because of the undesired attentions of an attending professor. As a couple they were a great fit, but as a public couple they were not made in heaven. It was an entertaining read, and I liked the glimpse I got of a lower level of Hollywood echelons.

This book is very cute. It also touched on a lot of topics that are going on today with lots of people. And I like how the author brought them up. Like Alice and the creepy professor. Her fears from how he is acting and treating her. Her fears of telling anyone of what he says and how it effects her. Like can she tell anyone? Will they believe her? Enter her working on a doctor show as an extra she meets Griffin who is the star of the show. Griffin is the new hot young actor. Griffin has doubts about his acting career and if he is just that great as some say he is. How Alice and Griffin become friends is so very sweet. Basically over his dog Taco. He thinks Alice doesn't like him. And Alice is just nervous around him because of her job and fear of trust of men. I don't want to give away a lot about this book. I will say damn we all need to be an extra on a TV show and dog sit for a down to earth actor. Ha. But seriously Griffin is great and once Alice realizes that he isn't all exactly what she has heard about him it starts to become can she trust him? And Griffin can he realize he is good enough and can do relationships. But with the right person. Can Griffin get past the career first before a person and can Alice trust long enough to see the person in front of her?

Rising Star- Susannah Nix

I could not recommend this book enough! It’s a must-read romance that had me feeling all the feels. It’s books like this one that fuel my reading addiction! I love being so swept up in a storyline that I can read the book in one sitting. That feeling of experiencing the same emotions as the characters and feeling so invested in their story. I have nothing negative to say about this book, I loved everything about it! The story flowed seamlessly, the build up to the relationship wasn’t too action-packed and the story felt so real!

I can’t wait to dive in to my next read by this phenomenal author.

Dropped, sorta skimmed the second half.
Frustrated at the FL.

Good read until FL turns illogical. She sleeps with ML knowing that he has a "public girlfriend" and then gets mad at ML because they can't let other people know about their relationship. I get that ML has become a large part of her life by that point of the story, but can't you (FL) stay friends until he publicly breaks up with his public girlfriend if you're going to be bothered by that?!?

Something about this seems out of character for FL, imo, but maybe it's how my own imagination built her character up to that point of the story?
