I ought to thank a close friend for this lecture. After hearing that I have no marriage planned anytime soon he simply accepted "as long as you don't become a feminist..".
Made me realize we really need more feminists..

This volume pulls together many of the articles and information from the Everyday Feminism website that show how important feminism still is. Bates has divided this into different chapters that deal with different aspects of modern sexism and provides the evidence behind each one, including references to twitter and blog posts from people across the globe that show examples of what she describes in her introductions and articles. I would describe this as a must read for everyone but I suspect that there are many who would not and will not see the wood for the trees. Instead I will say if you are part of human civilisation and which to remain so, read this, digest this and if you still do not believe it then ask those around you, everyone around you what their experiences are (their experiences, not their opinions, experiences).

Extremely surface level and tries too hard to appeal to men.
Had to stop when it got to the chapter of her congratulating and praising men for not being sexist..

This book made me angry and sad but I can’t say that I was really shocked by any of the presented findings and statistics. Almost all of those statistics were repeated multiple times in different chapters due to the fact that this book comprises a collection of short essays previously published in the British newspaper Guardian.
Because of the chapter length and the large number of discussed topics, the author could not go as much into depth as I would have preferred but as an overview of the many sexist issues women in the UK face on a daily basis, the book serves it’s purpose well.
I hope that I will also get to read Everyday Sexism by Laura Bates this year - which has shamefully gathered dust on my shelf for more than two years now.
