When I tell you I was a nuisance after this book. I would not shut up about it, when people asked me to tell them a book I liked with LGBTQ+ in it I completely skipped over others and told them this one. It was so fulfilling to learn both about what it is like to be trans and gay and what it is like in a very traditional Spanish household. There were a few times I was in tears because of how distraught he was. I also loved the inclusion of Spanish. If there is anything I could tell you it is to read this book. I can not wait to finish my TBR so I can reread this one.

The ending of this book had me weeping. Overall I throughly enjoyed this, it’s full of emotion and angst, a beautiful blend of culture and tradition with magic and paranormal romance. My only semi complaint is I found the middle chunk to drag on slightly. We get to read deeply into Yadriel’s frustration and rumination which is fantastic throughout most of the book but towards the middle was the only time I found myself longing for a little more forward moving action. All that being said, it was so heartening to read a YA novel with a queer & trans MC. Not only does the story honour a culture and a lived experienced but it also holds up separately as a creative concept. Such a lovely read!

Honestly I LOVED this book it made me laugh it made me SOB on an airplane. Incredibly well crafted magic system and the most lovable characters I would have got to bat for any single one of them. Really love seeing fantasy settings that aren’t just vaguely celtic (which I love that as well) but it’s awesome to change it up. This is great YA fantasy with a really sweet romance and look at families and acceptance. It was an awesome adventure and I just rooted for them so hard the whole time.

I feel like for me this was a 3.5 star book. Lots to like about it (good trans and Latinx rep as far as this cis, non-latinx person can tell), a few aspects I wasn't crazy about. Perhaps I will come back and write a real review someday when I'm caught up on sleep.

FIVE THOUSAND STARS! Cemetery Boys is my favorite book of the year. Yadriel and Julian are just so freaking adorable! Add in an awesome magic system, a mystery to solve, betrayal, and a ghost love story and you just can’t go wrong. And to top it all off, it’s funny as hell. Aiden Thomas didn’t take any of the expected paths through this story, to my absolute delight. Love, love, love!
